June 26<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n
This term, Primary 4\/5\/6 have been focusing on developing their fluency and expression in reading. All pupils have made fantastic progress and should feel very proud of their achievements.<\/div>\n
In writing, we have continued to explore a variety of text types, including informative, persuasive and letter writing. The children have written thoughtful letters to Mrs Anderson, their future teachers, and even sent letters home to their families.<\/div>\n
Over the past few weeks, the pupils have been taking part in an exciting World Cup-themed challenge, where they have worked independently to earn points for their chosen country. The children have shown fantastic enthusiasm, teamwork and determination throughout the challenge, while proudly cheering on Scotland along the way. This theme has been successfully linked across many areas of the curriculum, including technology, STEM, art, literacy and numeracy. The pupils especially enjoyed using the iPads to complete a variety of creative and interactive tasks linked to their countries and challenges.<\/div>\n
In numeracy this term, we have continued to focus on improving multiplication fluency and building confidence in mental maths strategies. The pupils have also explored a range of new learning, including measure, area and perimeter, coordinate points and money. They particularly enjoyed applying their learning to real-life money scenarios, where they practised budgeting, calculating costs and working out change. Through these activities, the children developed a greater understanding of the importance of banking, saving and online spending in modern life, while also becoming more confident in their problem-solving skills.<\/div>\n
Within art, the class have studied a variety of artists from around the world, including Romero Britto and Wassily Kandinsky. The pupils enjoyed learning about the artists\u2019 lives, styles and techniques, and used these as inspiration to create their own colourful and imaginative pieces of artwork. It has been wonderful to see their creativity and individuality shine through in their work.<\/div>\n
During PE lessons, the pupils have been developing a range of athletic skills, including hurdles, javelin, long jump and relay races. They have worked hard to improve their coordination, teamwork and perseverance while encouraging one another throughout activities. We have also explored fielding games, with rounders becoming a particular class favourite. The children demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and teamwork while taking part in matches and skill-building activities.<\/div>\n

March 26<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

This term in P 4\/5\/6 we have been learning about different styles of writing including reporting and persuasive writing. The pupils became detectives and solved the case of “Mrs Cunninghams missing ducks”, they displayed excellent teamwork and when the case was closed each child wrote their own newspaper article reporting on the incident. The children then began investigating persuasive writing where they learned how to argue for and against different cases.\u00a0 This allowed the children to deepen their vocabulary to persuade their audiences.<\/div>\n

Also, this term P4\/5\/6 published their own book with the guidance from storyteller Owen Pilgrim. Which we have been working hard on all year long.\u00a0 As well as creating the story, they also illustrated all the images. We also held our own book launch and invited in our parents and families to share in our success.<\/div>\n

We have enjoyed our library sessions with Mrs Ried this term and have chosen books to suit our own enjoyments and ability and have been focus during quiet reading times. We have also enjoyed our class novel Wonder together as a class and are looking forward to our class movie day when the novel is completed.<\/div>\n

Within numeracy the pupils have been building confidence in using the 4 operations and finding strategies that best suit their styles of learning. For example, grid method multiplication, arrays, grouping etc.\u00a0 P4\/5\/6 have enjoyed learning their multiplication facts through songs and use these to help support them with more challenging areas of number. We have also began learning about time, durations of time, converting from digital and analogue time and reading timetables. This is something we will continue to work on moving into next term.<\/div>\n

This term we have continued to grow in confidence when using Decider Skills to help us understand and manage our emotions. The pupils can confidently use and explain their fizz scales.<\/div>\n

Within PE we have continued working on gymnastics and began looking into ball games. The pupils have grown massively with their own individual leadership and teamwork skills as well as their understanding of how to play team sports such as netball, basketball, bench ball and football. \"\" \"\" \"\" \"\" \"\" \"\" \"\" \"\" \"\" \u00a0\u00a0\"\" \"\" \"\"<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

This term, pupils in P4\/5\/6 have been extremely busy and engaged in a wide range of learning experiences across the curriculum. They continued their work with storyteller Owen Pilgrim, collaborating as a class to create a children\u2019s sensory storybook based in the local area of Kelty. As part of this creative project, pupils visited Blairadam Woods to further develop their sensory awareness. The outdoor learning experience provided valuable opportunities for pupils to explore their surroundings, gather ideas, and work effectively in teams to design detailed sensory storyboards.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

In numeracy, pupils continued to take part in the Space STEM Project, which allowed them to apply mathematical skills in a real-life and engaging context. Alongside this, they focused on developing their multiplication skills and have worked hard to build confidence and accuracy. Pupils also strengthened their understanding of a range of mental maths strategies, demonstrating increased independence and resilience when tackling problem-solving tasks.<\/div>\n

During writing lessons, pupils began exploring information writing and learned how to present facts clearly and effectively through newspaper-style reports. They developed key skills such as researching, organising information, and writing for a specific audience. Pupils thoroughly enjoyed taking on the role of reporters and showed enthusiasm when creating headlines and articles.<\/div>\n
In PE, the class participated in gymnastics sessions where they learned how to use equipment safely and responsibly. Pupils worked on balance, coordination, and strength while developing teamwork and confidence.<\/div>\n

Across the expressive arts, pupils explored a variety of different art styles and techniques, allowing them to express their creativity and build new skills. In addition, the class spent time learning and rehearsing their Christmas songs. Their hard work and commitment were evident in the fantastic performance they delivered, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Primary 4\/5\/6 have settled well into the new school term and are already beginning to build positive relationships and slot right back into the school routines and expectations.<\/div>\n

In literacy this term we have been continuing to build upon our imaginative story writing, fluency in reading and we have been working hard on our new spelling progression scheme.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
We have been very lucky this term to have been joined by storyteller, Owen Pilgrim. Owen will be joining us throughout the year as part of an author residency and both Owen are P4\/5\/6 are very excited to be working together!<\/div>\n
In the first session with Owen, we covered an introduction to stories and how they work, the lore of faeries in Scotland and the imaginative creation of folklore creatures in story-making. Along with using art to express stories. The pupils did some wonderful work. In the second session, we went into the making of story maps, as well as creating a story as a group using story cards as a prompt and following a format of a traditional story. The groups of pupils created a story map using a story of their choosing. We can’t wait to see how this project will grow!<\/div>\n

In numeracy this term we have been revising our understanding of place value and how we can use it to round to the nearest 10,100 and 1000.\u00a0 We have been working hard to develop our mental maths strategies and are growing in confidence daily with this.<\/div>\n
We have also been working on our data analysis skills. We have been collecting data and transferring the data into bar graphs or line graphs. We are really enjoying this!<\/div>\n

We have been part\u00a0of the STEM Space Project which supports us to develop spatial reasoning skills through maths lessons. We\u2019re enjoying the activities, and they\u2019ve got us thinking hard!<\/div>\n

In PE we have been working hard on our teamwork skills as well as ball kills. We have been learning through playing basketball and P4\/5\/6 quickly became passionate about this. 7 children were chosen to take part in a basketball tournament against the cluster schools, in which they won 4 games out of 6. We are so proud of their effort, teamwork and resilience!<\/div>\n

Within HWB we have begun looking at Decider Skills and how this can help us identify and understand our emotions. We are growing in confidence when deciding where we are on our “Fizz Scale” and soon we will have strategies we can use to help us control our emotions.<\/div>\n

We have really enjoyed our time visiting our school library. We have enjoyed choosing which books we would like to read and spending time reading for enjoyment.<\/div>\n
