From birth, children use their meta-skills as they test and explore the world around them, and it is these meta-skills that act as a key to unlock the development of other transferable and technical skills. Therefore, it is important that as children and young people progress through their education, practitioners make meta-skills explicitly visible and create opportunities for learners to recognise, understand and explore their meta-skills development.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4433\" src=\"https:\/\/dywaberdeenshire.scot\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Meta-Skills-SDS-1024x151.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>The Skills Development Scotland meta-skills progression framework has been developed in collaboration with partners and practitioners from across Scotland and aims to help with identifying and understanding what meta-skills look like in the classroom. The framework builds on the \u2018Skills 4.0 \u2013 A Skills Model to Drive Scotland\u2019s Future\u2019 paper and illustrates examples of meta-skills across Curriculum for Excellence levels, from early years through to senior phase.<\/p>\n<p>Every fortnight we will be introducing a new skill in assembly and then following this up in classes. Each skill is introduced through a character- each group of characters belonging to a different \u2018house.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-554\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fi\/public\/coaltownofbalgonieps\/uploads\/sites\/14498\/2026\/03\/10103929\/image-1024x577.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"577\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Our achievements in assembly will now focus meta-skills and how the pupils are displaying these throughout the week.
