We are so lucky to have such an amazing landscape surrounding Star Primary School, with beautiful views or the agricultural landscape and a vast natural environment waiting to be explored.
The pupils have the opportunity to develop their skills for life, learning and work when taking their learning outdoors and enjoy exploring the changing seasons and wildlife during nature walks and exploration.
The whole school frequently visits a local wooded area together where they enjoy extending their learning across the curriculum in their outdoor classroom.
The pupils particularly enjoy taking part in activities such as den building, relaxing in their hammocks, tree climbing and being bug detectives to name a few.
Some quotes from the pupils:
“Every Friday we go outdoor learning! One week it’s Play pod, when we go out into the playground and build stuff using old things people have donated like pallets and cones. The next week we go to Fernie Field and learn out in the woods. “
“Every Friday afternoon we do outdoor learning. One week we do play pod, this is where we use resources to make and build things. The next week we go to Fernie Field, we get to explore the environment and learn about different things through outdoor learning. So far we have done maths, learnt about the environment, used natural materials to create our own rainforest frames and made our own habitats. Outdoor learning is fun.”
