GETTING IT RIGHT FOR EVERY CHILD (GIRFEC)<\/span><\/h1>\n

What is it?<\/span><\/h2>\n

Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC)\u00a0is\u00a0the\u00a0national policy framework\u00a0<\/a>aimed at\u00a0supporting the wellbeing of\u00a0children and young people. The framework embeds the articles of the\u00a0United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC)<\/a>\u00a0into practice and promotes a\u00a0rights-based approach<\/a>.<\/p>\n

How do we do it?<\/span><\/h2>\n

GIRFEC is designed around\u00a0four key principles:<\/a><\/p>\n

A child-focused approach<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0We\u2019ll put the young person and their family at the centre of all decision-making.<\/p>\n

Understanding wellbeing<\/strong>: We\u2019ll look at the child\u2019s wellbeing as a whole to provide appropriate, effective support at the right time.<\/p>\n

A preventative approach<\/strong>: We\u2019ll identify needs early so they don\u2019t grow into problems.<\/p>\n

\n

A joined-up approach<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0We\u2019ll work together to consider what help a child requires. We\u2019ll involve only the services needed to minimise unnecessary interruption in family life.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

What does this look like in practice?<\/span><\/h2>\n

The Fife framework below demonstrates the continuum of support that allows us to respond flexibly and proportionately depending on needs and risks.<\/p>\n

UNIVERSAL<\/strong><\/a>:\u00a0 Available to all children and young people<\/p>\n

ADDITIONAL<\/a>:<\/strong>\u00a0 Where additional support beyond universal approaches are required for a child to be successful.<\/p>\n

INTENSIVE<\/a>:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0To respond to a high level of need or risk.\u00a0 At the intensive level there is often multi-agency engagement.<\/p>\n
