{"id":29,"date":"2025-03-12T11:22:48","date_gmt":"2025-03-12T11:22:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fi\/rosslynschoolrationale\/?page_id=29"},"modified":"2026-03-02T18:56:39","modified_gmt":"2026-03-02T18:56:39","slug":"curriculum","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fi\/rosslynschoolrationale\/curriculum\/","title":{"rendered":"Curriculum"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 style=\"text-align: center\"><em><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Curriculum Areas and Subjects<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<p id=\"paragraph_-jYflYf841C\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_k-_fmHjc_a3\" class=\"\">We used Building the Curriculum 3 to help guide our discussions and ensure that we are working in line with the key principles and elements of CfE.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_CcYflYP841C\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_9A4aylER9M4\" class=\"\">We acknowledge that;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li id=\"paragraph_0OPhDl1nSN6\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_Mc90dRPg4s2\" class=\"\">The <\/span><span id=\"text_9j90dRfg4s2\" class=\"TextBodyEmph color_TextEmph\">curriculum <\/span><span id=\"text_yp90dRvg4s2\" class=\"\">is the totality of experiences which are planned for children and young people through their education, wherever they are being educated.<\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"paragraph_pUPhDlHnSN6\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_DzSGZvWC-z6\" class=\"\">The <\/span><span id=\"text_QsSGZvGC-z6\" class=\"TextBodyEmph color_TextEmph\">purpose <\/span><span id=\"text_pATGZv0D-z6\" class=\"\">of the curriculum is to help children and young people to develop within the 4 capacities. The framework therefore puts the <\/span><span id=\"text_04TGZvmC-z6\" class=\"TextBodyEmph color_TextEmph\">learner at the centre of the curriculum<\/span><span id=\"text_1YSGZvWB-z6\" class=\"\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"paragraph_QAPhDlXmSN6\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_Hv3rwpxZI-5\" class=\"TextBodyEmph color_TextEmph\">Experiences and outcomes <\/span><span id=\"text_Uo3rwphZI-5\" class=\"\">describe the expectations for learning and progression in all areas of the curriculum.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"paragraph_cOYflYv741C\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_A5TaeEP6QG0\" class=\"\">Children and young people are <\/span><span id=\"text_zBTaeEf6QG0\" class=\"TextBodyEmph color_TextEmph\">entitled <\/span><span id=\"text_mITaeEv6QG0\" class=\"\">to a curriculum that includes a range of features at the different stages. The framework expands on these; in summary, children and young people are entitled to experience a curriculum that is:<\/span><\/p>\n<h6 id=\"paragraph_B8ZflYf941C\" dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span id=\"text_RHKbQRbZsm9\" class=\"\">&gt; <\/span><span id=\"text_eAKbQRLZsm9\" class=\"TextBodyEmph color_TextEmph\">coherent <\/span><span id=\"text_r3KbQR5Zsm9\" class=\"\">from 3 to 18<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n<h6 id=\"paragraph_O1ZflYP941C\" dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span id=\"text_3dcXiYIJwHD\" class=\"\">&gt; a <\/span><span id=\"text_GWcXiY2JwHD\" class=\"TextBodyEmph color_TextEmph\">broad general education<\/span><span id=\"text_TPcXiYoIwHD\" class=\"\"> from Early years to S3<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n<h6 id=\"paragraph_bwYflY9941C\" dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span id=\"text_IwChhiorQp8\" class=\"\">&gt; a <\/span><span id=\"text_51Dhhi2sQp8\" class=\"TextBodyEmph color_TextEmph\">senior phase <\/span><span id=\"text_u7DhhiIsQp8\" class=\"\">which provides opportunity to obtain qualifications<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n<h6 id=\"paragraph_opYflYv841C\" dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span id=\"text_otg3pdT58v8\" class=\"\">&gt; developing <\/span><span id=\"text_b_h3pdj58v8\" class=\"TextBodyEmph color_TextEmph\">skills for learning, skills for life and skills for work<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n<h6 id=\"paragraph_dsXflYf641C\" dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span id=\"text_qbU1OmRpMK2\" class=\"TextBodyEmph color_TextEmph\">&gt; personal support<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n<h6 dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span id=\"text_v6LwjXORsw-\" class=\"\">&gt; <\/span><span id=\"text_60LwjX8Rsw-\" class=\"TextBodyEmph color_TextEmph\">positive and sustained destinations <\/span><span id=\"text_VKLwjXuRsw-\" class=\"\">beyond school<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n<h4><strong><em><span style=\"color: #000080\">In order to achieve this we have designed our broad general education curriculum based around the 7 key principles;<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li id=\"paragraph_eRFhh_Df5S4\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_1weQMYU3oeB\" class=\"\"> To provide a <\/span><span id=\"text_EpeQMYE3oeB\" class=\"TextBodyEmph color_TextEmph\">relevant, broad<\/span><span id=\"text_d7fQMY_4oeB\" class=\"\"> curriculum that gives <\/span><span id=\"text_q0fQMYk3oeB\" class=\"TextBodyEmph color_TextEmph\">challenge<\/span><span id=\"text_DLfQMYU4oeB\" class=\"\"> to promote thinking and <\/span><span id=\"text_QEfQMYE4oeB\" class=\"TextBodyEmph color_TextEmph\">enjoyment<\/span><span id=\"text_pYfQMY_5oeB\" class=\"\"> and provides motivation<\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"paragraph_2EFhh_je5S4\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_e2ICJPAR2p4\" class=\"\"> To ensure <\/span><span id=\"text_R9ICJPQR2p4\" class=\"TextBodyEmph color_TextEmph\">coherence and continuity<\/span><span id=\"text_2rHCJPgQ2p4\" class=\"\"> from nursery through to the transition into positive destinations<\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"paragraph_S0Fhh_De5S4\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_CZ1K5PhyngB\" class=\"\"> To plan, ensuring <\/span><span id=\"text_-g1K5PxyngB\" class=\"TextBodyEmph color_TextEmph\">depth<\/span><span id=\"text_cL1K5PByngB\" class=\"\"> of learning which allows for application of skills across contexts<\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"paragraph_soEhh_jd5S4\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_pPAtyJHGheA\" class=\"\"> <\/span><span id=\"text_0JAtyJ1GheA\" class=\"TextBodyEmph color_TextEmph\">Progressive<\/span><span id=\"text_DCAtyJnFheA\" class=\"\"> learning that is carefully planned for and builds on prior experiences<\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"paragraph_GbEhh_Dd5S4\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_A_eNPpcYk8_\" class=\"\"> <\/span><span id=\"text_z4eNPpsYk8_\" class=\"TextBodyEmph color_TextEmph\">Personalisation and choice<\/span><span id=\"text_mBeNPp6Zk8_\" class=\"\">; ensuring all activities are matched to the individual needs of our learners.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong style=\"font-size: 26px\">Rosslyn School Pedagogy<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Our pedagogy is grounded in the belief that every learner can progress when teaching is responsive, meaningful and anchored in relationships. Staff:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>use attuned, warm, responsive communication<\/li>\n<li>scaffold learning through modelling, prompting and encouragement<\/li>\n<li>embed AAC, Signalong, gesture, objects of reference and other communication tools<\/li>\n<li>prioritise relational connection as a foundation for learning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These interactional strategies are essential to supporting understanding, reducing distress, and building trust.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Holistic and Multi\u2011Sensory Learning<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Our teaching incorporates sensory experiences to support processing, understanding and engagement. Multi\u2011sensory pedagogy ensures learning is accessible, meaningful and developmentally appropriate for all learners.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Collaborative Planning and Reflective Practice<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Teaching is strengthened through teamwork.
