Welcome

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Pitlessie Primary School Website.

Pitlessie Primary School is a country school which is now part of two schools led by Lesley O’Brien Headteacher. It is set amongst farmland that lies in the fertile Eden Valley. Most of our children come from the village of Pitlessie and its environs, extending to the Howe of Fife in the North and Cults Hill to the South.

There has been a school here since 1860 and before then, a Dame School. Our logbooks show that once we held 120 pupils.

This session, we have one class P1-P6. In addition to the classrooms, we have a library / school office / general purpose room and a dining / music / general purpose room. PE and Drama lessons take place in the Wilkie Village Hall. The children are given the opportunity to take part in various sporting activities organised by the Active Schools Co-ordinator.

We have a tarmac covered playground to the front and rear of the school and a walled ‘secret’ garden’ which the children help to maintain and plant as part of the Eco Schools initiative.

We aim to provide an environment in which the children reach a very high standard of education and width of educational experience through which they can learn the skills necessary to become independent workers and thinkers. To this end, we have various Citizen groups within the school. These include a Pupil Council, Digital Leader and Eco Committee who all work together to ensure the cohesive running of the school.

Pitlessie Primary School upper primary pupils enjoy visits to an Outdoor Centre on a two yearly cycle. The children take part in community activities such as concerts, services and open afternoons.

We are fortunate in having members of a Parent Council who show the children by example the value of community effort. The Parents Council members in the past have organised a variety of fundraising and fun events enjoyed by the whole village. They also raise items of concern about the school or the children. The Parent Council is an invaluable asset to the school.

The children, teachers and parents here work closely together to devise individual targets and then help support the children to reach them.
