We are doing a new thing called JAM TIME (Journey to Achieve in Multiplication). We focus on a times table for 15 minutes a day and we focus on it for a week. We hope to get at least 80% of he class (20 people) to be fluent in the 7 times table. Masters are people who are fluent in their times table. To be a Master you need to know the times table. When you feel confident Master will test you by asking you 3 questions. Then the teacher will test you then if you are correct then congrats you are a master.
The Scottish poem we are learning for Burns Assembly is ‘Address to a Haggis’ by Rabbie Burns. The words are below.
Fair fa’ your honest, sonsie face, Great chieftain o’ the pudding-race! Aboon them a’ ye tak your place, Painch, tripe, or thairm : Weel are ye wordy o’a grace As lang’s my arm.
The groaning trencher there ye fill, Your hurdies like a distant hill, Your pin wad help to mend a mill In time o’need, While thro’ your pores the dews distil Like amber bead.
His knife see rustic Labour dight, An’ cut you up wi’ ready sleight, Trenching your gushing entrails bright, Like ony ditch; And then, O what a glorious sight, Warm-reekin’, rich!
Then, horn for horn, they stretch an’ strive: Deil tak the hindmost! on they drive, Till a’ their weel-swall’d kytes belyve Are bent like drums;
Then auld Guidman, maist like to rive, Bethankit! hums.
Is there that owre his French ragout Or olio that wad staw a sow, Or fricassee wad make her spew Wi’ perfect sconner, Looks down wi’ sneering, scornfu’ view On sic a dinner?
Poor devil! see him owre his trash, As feckless as wither’d rash, His spindle shank, a guid whip-lash; His nieve a nit; Thro’ bloody flood or field to dash, O how unfit!
But mark the Rustic, haggis-fed, The trembling earth resounds his tread. Clap in his walie nieve a blade, He’ll mak it whissle; An’ legs an’ arms, an’ heads will sned, Like taps o’ thrissle.
Ye Pow’rs, wha mak mankind your care, And dish them out their bill o’ fare, Auld Scotland wants nae skinking ware That jaups in luggies; But, if ye wish her gratefu’ prayer Gie her a haggis!
Here too is a link to a performance of the poem
Mild – First 2 stanzas and the final stanza
Spicy – First 4 stanzas and the final stanza
Hot – Whole poem
For the opportunity to perform the poem at the Burns assembly, the whole poem (Hot challenge) is required. Everyone will perform in front of the class but the Mild and Spicy challenges can be picked for this.
On Thursday in math we have been learning area and perimeter. We learned length x breadth is the formula for calculating the area of squares and rectangles and used this for compound shapes some of us also learned the formula for the area of triangles is half base x height.
Here are the words of the week for our vocabulary.
We have learning about the poet Benjamin Zephaniah over the last couple of days. he is a British Jamaican man who lived in poverty during his youth. You can hear one of his poems here.

In RME today we learned about Hanukkah with Mrs Richie and it is on this week. It fell on the second of December until the tenth of December. Here is a picture of a Menorah.
A popular Jewish tradition is a game that the children would play is called Dreidel.
When designing our shadow puppets there was no point in putting in detail, we just had to outline them and the features we were going to cutout. We had to design characters and problem solve. The reason we weren’t putting detail in was because the surface area was the shadow and the holes let the light travel through. We had to design our own boxes which were going to be our theatres. When performing our show with the shadow puppets we used two tables with a gap in the middle so when we went under the table we could stick our puppets up and display our show, We have been making these for an hour and a half every week for a few weeks. Bisma liked working as a group. Rhys enjoyed it because it was nice to see others creations. We got the chance to perform to P 2 /3 and they appreciated the opportunity because there project was light and sound.
We have been working on some new and ambitious vocabulary words from the hunger games again this week. These word are:

We are going to have our vocabulary quiz on Friday. It is Mr Murray’s last day on Friday and we are all going to miss him It is also Mr Campbell’s last day on Friday, we are preparing for his leaving assembly on Thursday.
We are rehearsing a song for Mr Campbell’s leaving assembly. He is a big Liverpool FC fan, so we have created our own version of a fan song. It is to the tune of Yellow Submarine.
In a town, where I was born
Lived a man who sailed to sea
And he told of his pride, they were a famous football team
So we trailed to Anfield Road, singing songs of victory
There we saw the Holy ground of our hero Bill Shankly.
We all live in a red and white Kop
A red and white Kop, a red and white Kop
We all live in a red and white Kop
A red and white Kop, a red and white Kop.
In the town where I was born,
Lived a man at Pitreavie
And he told us of his pride, to teach at the best, school for me
So we trailed to Pitcorthie Drive, singing songs of good bye
In class we have been learning about China and the Chinese zodiac . We have started to do a stop motion animation depicting the Chinese zodiac story of the great race. We have been planning for a few weeks and have finally started to do the animating. We are intending to add our own music using mixcraft a music app we are just learning to use.
We have also been doing shadow puppets in art. We had to make the puppets, right now we are making the theaters for the show which we might perform to the P1’s either this week or next, it has been a work in progress. One of the groups has a lot of dragons and another was about a boy and a dragon who became friends. It has been really good fun working in our groups.
We have had to make them not too detailed but we are allowed to add some facial features. It has been a bit of a challenge but we are doing well. We hope to get them finished by the end of the week.
We have expanded our vocabulary with a few more ambitious words from The Hunger Games. These were:
Most of the class were away at Ardroy for a P7 residential. The activities we did at Ardroy were Jacobs ladder, night walk, Introduction walk, Abseiling, Archery and canoeing plus many more. Our week away gave us the opportunity to work on team building, problem solving and challenge ourselves. When it was eating time we were meant to not waste food and on Monday we had 127g, and at dinner time we had 20g and the rest we got 0g. When group A were doing canoeing Simon, our instructor, the whole time was steering us in circles when everyone thought it was each other. When Simon detached his canoe we were fine and we headed in the right direction. And then once we finished we had to carry the canoe back to where it belongs and some people went in the water and after about 30 seconds they came out freezing. In archery Stephanie and Ewan were up at the same time as each other and when we were trying to hit the balloons we were both less than a fist away from hitting it and were both very disappointed when we realised it hadn’t hit the balloon 🙁 It was Aayans birthday while we were away and we couldn’t light the candle on his cake so we just eat it without a candle.

Also in numeracy we are learning about decimals in our numeracy learning journey. We started learning about china for our topic , we have been basing our art on China aswell by starting to make Chinease shadow puppets and creating a plot for them to act to.
The Squashed Tomato Challenge is a science and technology challenge involving making a pulley and container system to transport tomatoes up and down a steep mountain. We did this because of people in countries like Nepal. In Nepal farmers had to find a solution to transporting their produce up and down mountains to get to market without squashing or dropping any. We used resources such as K’Nex, lego, string, and of course, tomatoes! While making our containers and ropes systems we used skills such as, creativity, problem solving and trial and error. You can see pictures of our efforts below. The teams of Isla and Amy and Oliver and Jodie both made successful models!
