This week we have been busy learning about Scotland. We looked at the landscape, rivers and Scotland’s map, We also learned four Scottish Country dances. We started learning our Scottish poem and began our class novel Out of the Depths by Cathy MacPhail who is a Scottish author. In French we have been revising numbers, dates, family members and pets. For outdoor learning we started recording the different types of birds that we can see in the school grounds.

Primary 6
This week we have continued working on percentages and the pentagons looked at coordinates. In French we were learning French Christmas words. In Literacy we were reading extracts from The Diary of Anne Frank and learning about the ideas behind Christmas adverts. In P.E we finished off our lessons on hockey and looked at all of the data that we had recorded. This helped us to see how well our skills had progressed.
In topic we presented our personal projects to the rest of the class and worked on our presenting skills.
We enjoyed being creative with our Christmas star decorations.
We have had a busy term and are looking forward to our holiday. Merry Christmas from P6!

Maths
On Monday in maths we were doing orienteering round the school. We were put into pairs and were given a map. We had to go to all the different locations which all had a question at them you had to answer the question and show to the teachers there was 6 questions in total. They were all linked to percentages.
Christmas cards
On Thursday we made Christmas cards using circles and decorated the how we wanted to.
Topic
Our topic this term is ww2. We were learning about the roles of women during world war 2. We learnt that when the men were off fighting the women had to take the roles of the men.
Drama
In drama we chose characters from Good Night Mr Tom and got put into groups. We chose which characters we wanted to be and got interviewed by the rest of the class.

Blog
This week in school we learnt many interesting things. In PE we are learning to play hockey. On Monday we played a game where we had to touch all the cones with a hockey stick and ball. On Thursday we started playing a mini hockey tournament in our table groups.
On Monday we had to make our own PE games in our tables and on Tuesday we had to write instructions on how to play that game.
Going over to our topic of WW2 we made war propaganda posters on Tuesday. On Wednesday we were learning about the roles of women in WW2. We found out that women played a big part of helping to do jobs whilst men were out fighting in the war. They did jobs such as bus driving, fire truck driving, air raid wardens and land girls.
In Numeracy we started learning about volume in solid shapes and we learnt about the formula of volume which is just L times B times H or length times breadth times height.
On Thursday we were learning about particles and how they are in solids, liquids and gases. The particles in solids are tightly packed and can only vibrate and can’t move. The particles in water can move but they move in a certain patterns. The particles in gases, however, can move freely in all directions

Primary 6
This week in P6 we have been drawing and decorating two-point perspective gingerbread houses for our upcoming Christmas display in the hall.
In PE we have been playing hockey. We have been put in our tables for an upcoming class tournament and have learnt lots of new hockey skills.
Also, this week in maths, the pentagons have done the RRR (stands for Revise Review Revisit)The triangles and squares have been doing factors of multiples for example they have learnt that the 6 factors of 18 are 2, 9, 3, 6, 1 and 18. We have also been learning to convert fractions to percentages.
We were learning about PTSD in soldiers during wartime. It was very sad hearing about how soldiers were affected by war.

We have been working on percentages this week in Numeracy and doing a bit more work with decimals.
In Literacy we were playing detective with clues from a battle during WW2. We wrote down what we thought had happened and next week we are going to see how close we were to the true story.
In Science we were learning about different states of matter and sorting their different properties.
In P.E we have been continuing our hockey skills and are now able to play small-sided games.
In ICT we were using the 3D printer to print our Christmas tree designs. We also used the same software to design Anderson shelters.

This week we have learning about different aspects of World War 2. We learned about the Blitz and the Blackouts. We created poems about the blackout and different alphabet poems about war. In art we designed blitz pictures using watercolours.
In ICT/Science we continued to work on our water cycle animation. In Numeracy we have done a lot of work on decimals.

This week in Numeracy we were working on decimals and place value. In Literacy we wrote letters as Evacuees and worked on our listening skills by listening to parts of the class novel and then answering questions.
In Health we were learning about resilience and linking it to our learning on WW2. For our topic we learned more about local soldiers who had died during either WW1 or WW2. We discussed how we could remember them in the school and are planning a small remembrance area for them.
In P.E we are continuing to develop our hockey skills. This week we worked on striking and stopping the ball and played team games.
In ICT we started creating an animation about the water cycle.
We used small loose parts to create ideas from WW2.
Primary 6
This week in primary 6 we have been practising our Junior leader skills, we picked classes and then wrote what we wanted to play with them. We made a timetable for the term ahead and used some of the games that we have been learning as part of our plan.
In maths the pentagons have been finishing off their time board games and the squares and triangles have been working on their minutes and seconds.
P6’s topic this term is World War 2, we have started watching a movie called Goodnight Mr Tom so that we can compare it to the book. Our new class novel called Hitler’s Canary about a boy who lived in Denmark during the war. We are planning to compare the life of a child in a neutral country during WW2 to the life of a child in Britain through these two novels.
This week we were given the option to take part in the BBC 500-word story but since not everyone wants to take part P6 will have the opportunity to work on it at home.
In science this term P6 are learning about water conservation we made posters about why it is import.

Primary 6
In P6 Pentagons have started making board games that is teaching others about Time. The whole class have been put into groups to learn a game and then teach others the game that they learnt as part of our training for Junior Leaders. We have enjoyed taking on these new skills. People have chosen a skills academy to take part in. This has been fun.
We have had a fun week back.
