We’ve had another busy and engaging week in P6!
We kicked off the week by completing a range of questions and solving a variety of problems in numeracy, giving us a chance to show off our skills and confidence. This helped us set goals for our learning journey ahead and it was also a great starting point to help us choose our personal learning targets across Numeracy, Literacy and Health and Wellbeing!
Later in the week, we began our work on Addition using the column method to add increasingly larger numbers with accuracy and confidence. There were some excellent examples of clear layout and neat working.
Growth Mindset- The Power of Yet!
We learned all about how our brains grow and how we can become stronger learners through making mistakes and showing perseverance. We explored the difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset through class discussions, sorting activities and a fun mindset quiz that got us reflecting on our own attitudes. We know that even if we can’t do something yet, that doesn’t mean we won’t ever!
This week in Literacy, we had fun preparing for our spelling test in a creative way — by designing graffiti style spelling art! This helped us remember tricky words and brought lots of colour and personality to our work.
We also continued reading our class novel ‘Divided City’, digging deeper into themes of Discrimination and Sectarianism. These big ideas sparked some very thoughtful conversations. To support our understanding, we created our own ‘Divided City Dictionaries’, where we recorded and explained key vocabulary in our own words.
To brush up on our French skills, we played games and sang songs that helped us revise greetings, numbers, colours and more. It was a lively and fun way to get back into speaking and listening in French — très bien!
In P.E., we focused on core football skills like ball control (touches), dribbling, passing and stopping. We applied these in team games and challenges, where communication and teamwork made all the difference. Our skills are definitely improving already!
It’s been another fantastic week full of learning and creativity and growth. From developing our number skills to exploring big ideas in our novel and building confidence in football — we are so proud of what we’ve achieved together. Bring on next week!
