We started the week by diving into numeracy, where we explored more rounding and working with decimals. We worked through a variety of problems to help us better understand place value and how to round numbers accurately. This also helped us in a real context when we had to work within a budget to plan a party for Miss Cook! We had to use our prior learning to support us in adding and subtracting amounts to help us find the total cost- we even did some estimating and rounding too!
We received great news about our mini saga stories from P5, which we’re very excited to have the chance to be published! We continued developing our imaginative writing this week and we worked on our football-themed writing plans, using our novel focus as inspiration. We looked closely at how to structure our ideas and add description – including some fantastic similes (like “as cold as ice”) to bring our writing to life.
We’ve also been developing our listening and talking skills by working in pairs to prepare and rehearse for our upcoming Glaswegian Landmark’s talks. This gave us the chance to collaborate, research and practice our presentation techniques. In spelling, we visited our ‘Spelling Stations’, where we worked on tricky words through interactive activities that helped us remember their patterns. The stations included a spelling game, doodle words and a spelling craft to support us in doing our assessment at the end of the week.
In French, we’ve continued our revision on greetings and number and next week we are looking forward to researching and finding out information about ‘Famous French People’.
A big highlight of our week was learning about the Learning Pit – a way to understand how challenges help us grow as learners. We discussed what it feels like to be in the pit, how to climb out of it and how the power of persistence can lead to success. To show our understanding, we created colourful and creative Learning Pit posters filled with strategies and encouraging words.
In RME, we looked at peace in different countries, learning how people around the world promote peace in different ways. We had meaningful discussions and reflected on how we can help support peace, then we created and presented posters at the end to show off our learning.
In PE, we continued with our football focus, working on ball control, dribbling, passing and stopping the ball. We also focused on understanding space and positioning during games. These skills came together during team games where teamwork and communication were key.
It’s been a week full of creativity, collaboration and deep thinking. From writing and presenting, to exploring peace and working with decimals, P6 continues to impress with determination and enthusiasm. We’re proud of everything we’ve achieved — bring on next week!
