Monday to Wednesday with Mrs Meiklem

This week we had fun creating more imaginative stories. We played hopping games in PE. We have been learning how to share equally for division. In topic we practised listening for information about otters from a video. We took notes and listened for key words. We also started to plan our class Outdoor learning day trip. We have lots of fun ideas of what we’d like to do. We enjoyed performing role plays to an audience in drama. We received peer feedback about movement, voice and character. In music we sang songs together for enjoyment.

This week we were very lucky to be visited by an author and illustrator – Morag Hood! We listened to her stories and were taught how to draw one of the cartoons from her book.

We took our reading outdoors on Thursday and enjoyed the sunshine.

We are learning how we can add coins together in maths.

We have been able to explore how we can use lines to create perspective art.

Monday to Wednesday with Mrs Meiklem

This week we were practising jumping skills in PE. We played lots of fun games. We made our own obstacle courses in Loose Parts Play.
In writing we were creating our own narrative pieces to entertain the reader. We all used our imaginations to create some wonderful stories.
We have been talking about our likes and dislikes. We created our own notes in class and performed a short talk about ourselves to the class. We all tried hard to be a quality audience and to give feedback using the success criteria.

We have explored money and how we use different methods to pay for things. We all tried to remember the coins and notes we have in this country.

We practised some more of our capital letters. We are making sure they touch the top and bottom of the lines.

Tuesday and Wednesday with Mrs Meiklem

We were all very excited to hear about everyone’s news from the long weekend. We were also talking about how our sunflowers are growing at home. We are all going to keep measuring their progress throughout the term.
In numeracy we did a short check up on multiplication. We enjoyed exploring the new loose parts in the shed. In topic we were learning about pine martens and we did a super piece of writing about them.

In literacy this week we secured our understanding of when we should use present and past tense words.

We have progressed on to using balls in tennis after demonstrating our great racket skills! Lots of us are really getting the hang of this. I am super proud.

We have created posters for our own inventions that we are entering into a class competition. Maybe one day, one of them will come to life!

We have now finished revisiting symbols and functions machines in maths and next week we will move on to money.

Tuesday with Miss Allan

This week we did our PE outside. We were playing games to do with balance and stability. We loved playing hot dog tig and rolling about the grass!
We practised skimming and scanning skills using highlighters and made our own notes. We wrote information reports about moles.
In numeracy we used objects to show commutative pairs (3×4 and 4×3…).

In literacy we have been learning about past and present tense words and how to use them in sentences. We have played lots of games to develop our understanding and next week we will continue on with this area.

We have continued to build on our racket skills with beanbags and next week we will move on to use tennis balls! We have been competing in pairs and teams.

We began the planning of our own inventions in pairs. We were very creative and designed some interesting things!

Monday to Wednesday with Mrs Meiklem What a lovely sunny week we’ve had! We enjoyed learning outside lots this week. In PE we were practising throwing and catching with lots of fun music and games. In numeracy we took our learning outside and used natural materials to group objects for multiplication. We have been doing lots of extra writing and seeing how much we can write in 10 minutes. We planted sunflowers in science and talked about what a seed needs to grow. We are setting up an experiment and making predictions. In topic we were reading for information about beavers. We made our own notes and wrote information reports.

We have had a lovely first week back! We created a fantastic display to showcase our trip and the adventures we got up to. This included art, stories and reviews.

We started learning some tennis skills using beanbags and were able to work in pairs and in groups.

We learnt some new symbols in numeracy.

We explored some new resources in our classroom.
