14.12.23 – 15.12.23

Happy Friday!

This week we have been festive crazy from the get go! We all walked so safely and responsibly to the Church with the whole school and we sang out hearts out along to the Christmas story narrated by P7s. Everyone was so pleased to take part.

We were able to finish off the week with crafts including decorations and cards which the children will get home on Wednesday. They have all put so much effort in and they look great. The last tricky word activity of 2023 was to design a Christmas jumper with our words!

I hope everyone has a lovely Christmas break and I will see you all in the New Year!

Hello everyone!

Happy Festive Friday.

P2 spent Thursday with Miss Alan as I was poorly. They were able to build up their coding skills on the netbooks. They were also able to use them to create some digital art! As previous learning was symmetry, they re-visited this topic to ensure their learning had been remembered.

On Friday, we created cards for festive bags that are sent out by the school. We made lovely reindeers and added some props to them! We created tricky words baubles, please feel free to add some string and add them to your trees.

It was the last week of committees and so all the groups were looking at all we have learnt in this block and bringing our projects to a close.

We finished the day by revisiting our connecting words and made up some festive sentences.

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

Thursday and Friday with Miss Mathers

Numeracy

We have started to come to the end of place value and so we really made sure our understanding of numbers to 100 and beyond for some were really secure. We showed the number in 4 different ways. We did this independently and also then challenged our peers to show numbers.

Literacy

We have been creative with how we can learn tricky words and we made them into bracelets! This allowed for the children to read these throughout the day and help us to memories the tricky sounds that try to confuse us in some of these words!

We are looking at how we can answer questions about texts. We have been focusing on how our answers can be in full sentences and how this allows the reader to fully understand what is being asked.

We all joined in with committees this week and were able to share lots of exciting learning that is going on across the groups.

As the weeks quickly start to disappear in 2023, we have started creating 2024 calendars which the children will all take home at the end of term.

Happy weekend!

Thursday and Friday with Miss Mathers

Numeracy

We have been using our existing knowledge of place value and using it to add 10, take away 10, add 1 and take away 1. We were able to use a catchy rhyme of slide down the shoot and climb up the ladder to help us remember how we can use a 100 square to support our learning.

Literacy

We created sentences using the connectives – and, but, because, so. We were very creative with the different sentences we could make! We are continuing to be creative with the way we learn tricky words. This week we made our own domino games in pairs with our words. Next week I will give the children home new sets and this is something they could do at home to practise.

Other

For ourdoor learning, we joined P1/2 and went on a sensory hunt. We collected lots of things and compared them with the things our friends had collected too.

In gym we have began looking at ball skills appropriate for playing basket ball. We considered spatial awareness, team work and communication and build up to a whole class game of superhero ball game. We worked so well as a team.

Have a lovely weekend!

Friday 10th November

Hello everyone! Just the one day for us this week.

Literacy – We have began looking at what clues we can pick up from pictures to better understand what a text will be about. We created titles for our own book covers and were able to tell our peers about what we think might go on in their book cover creations.

HWB – We prepared a class poster looking at big deal and little deal. We understand how other people can sometimes have different perspectives when it comes to situations. We considered how we can help our friends to see things as a ‘little deal’ when they are upset. We will present this poster at assembly on Monday.

Numeracy – We were able to bring base ten blocks to life and create our own creations. Although our values were all under 100, we had discussions about what would change when they go over 100. These monsters will be on display in our classroom for you all to see at parents evening.

Hope you all have a lovely long weekend.

2.11.23 & 3.11.23

Hello everyone! Another busy week with Miss Mathers

Numeracy

We have been continuing to build up our number awareness with place value. We learnt a new game with UNO and lots of us were able to build numbers with a high value. Give it a go with the children if you have cards at home. We were also colouring in ‘chips’ and ‘peas’ (tens and ones) to representing numbers to 100.

Literacy

We have been learning how to put words in alphabetical order and connecting our phonics with capital letters.  We were able to make our own alphabet stories, and draw pictures to visually represent things that started with A-Z.

Art

We created beautiful pieces of art using forks, cotton buds, glue sticks, loo roll tubes and paint! We made a picture inspired by fireworks. We were able to talk about how we keep safe at this time of year during celebrations.

Have a fun and safe weekend boys and girls!

Friday 27th October

Wednesday to Friday with Miss Mathers.

Hello! It has been a lovely couple of days getting to know all of the children again and seeing how much they have grown since primary 1.

We all took part in a get to know me activity which was focused around numbers in our lives. The children were able to tell me things about themselves such as their birthdays, their favourite numbers, and for some, pretending how many of our favourite foods and drinks we could eat a day!

In literacy we focused on my favourite book ‘The Gruffalo’. As the children also know this book very well, it was a great choice to pick apart the literacy within further. We were able to answer questions about things that happened in the book and then use our imagination to imagine the mouse meeting a different animal. We then used our previous knowledge of adjectives to describe our characters. We then used more adjectives to describe ourselves and 3 of our friends!

In gym we were able to work as a team, doing listening games and ball games.

We came together with the whole school and had together time. We all celebrated gaining our first green eco flag! So many of the children looked fab in their green and blue colours.

In Halloween spirit, we designed our own pumpkins of all shapes and sizes using zentangle art. They were all very creative and original. This was a lovely activity to let us all relax and prepare for the weekend.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
