Thursday and Friday with Miss Mathers

We have had a lovely first week back! We created a fantastic display to showcase our trip and the adventures we got up to. This included art, stories and reviews.

We started learning some tennis skills using beanbags and were able to work in pairs and in groups.

We learnt some new symbols in numeracy.

We explored some new resources in our classroom.

Friday with Miss Mathers

The boys and girls had Miss Alan yesterday and had lots of fun. They were able to code on the netbooks so that they could make characters move and they took part in a litter pick.

Today we have been learning some new symbols in maths – more than, less than and equal to. We created our own crocodiles to help us remember them!

We all had our last week of committees for the term.

We finished our spring art which we are all so excited to share and practised our service songs.

We have been pulling together some of our Scottish Inventors learning to create a timeline in our class.

Have a lovely weekend all. Xx

Thursday and Friday with Miss Mathers

This week we have been preparing for our Spring service. We have chatted about ‘what spring means to us’ and the children have come up with lovely stories around what they do with families around Easter time. This will be shared at our service represented by art.

We have come to an end of our data displaying topic and we voted for which Scottish invention was most important. Lots of us thought the steam engine!

We have been considering how we can help in a situation where someone is unconscious. Lots of us are becoming confident in following 7 steps to ensure we are safe to help others if needed.

In literacy we have been talking about fact or opinion. We came up with great comparisons.

We have all been very busy in our committees as last week is our last of this term. We enjoy sharing our experiences with our peers when we come back together.

Friday 8th March

For World Book Day we had lots of fun literacy activities planned. We made up out own ‘Little princess/prince’ stories of what we wanted to do and didn’t want to do. We designed a book cover for our favourite book and we were able to share lots of stories throughout the day. Lots of pictures from this day will be shared on Sway soon.

We continue to learn lots of new areas in our Committee groups.

In maths we continue to have discussions around data and what kind of data we can collect and how we can display it.

This week we have began our new topic of ‘Scottish Inventors’. At home if you know of any inventions from Scotland please chat with the children about them. We will have a chance next week to share some more about what we already know.

We loved seeing how smart the girls were in their Rainbow uniform for ‘World Thinking Day’. We are looking forward to hearing what they get up to tonight.

For outdoor learning we had to be super quiet while we watched for birds around the school grounds. We used tally marks to keep count of our findings. Collecting data has been carried on in maths while we started our topic of data. To remind us of what we learnt in primary 1, we created a pictograph on what pets we had at home.

We continue to practise forming our capital letters correctly.

Friday 9th February

Hello everyone!

This week we have been rounding up our learning on patterns in maths and we have completed an end of topic job to see how much we have learnt over the last few weeks. We will move onto Data collection and presentation after the long weekend.

We have had our last week of skills academy where lots of us learnt new things and were able to share with our friends our experiences. We had lots of fun!

We have been creating questions for our friends and coming up with appropriate answers to ensure that we can find out key information.

For outdoor learning we were able to check up on our bird feeders. Any that were all gobbled up we tidied away. We had a little clean up of our school grounds also to ensure that it is safe for us to play and learn in.

Hello everyone,

This week we have been continuing to build on creating and solving number patterns. Many of us were able to solve really tricky ones! We will continue with this topic until the February break before we move into Data.

When thinking of bird watching week, we discussed how we can help birds to ensure they get enough food and energy. We decided to make bird feeders and spread them around our nursery garden and the trim trail.

We are bringing together our learning of lines in art and primary colours to make some Mondrain inspired pieces.

18.1.24 / 19.1.24

Hello everyone,

A busy week!

We continued our preparation for Burns Night – we have been practising our poems and started to learn some Scottish dances. We were all so good!

We have continued our learning of primary and secondary colours and made some ‘birds of colour’

To extend our focus of kindness, we created a whole class display where we could leave people thank you notes to acknowledge how people have been kind and ‘filled our bucket’.

And of course… outdoor learning with some snow! The flour-men worked!

Friday 12th January 2024

Hello Everyone,

I hope you all had a lovely break off at Christmas. I was out of class yesterday and Miss Alan was covering – they were beginning to look at fractions in maths. They also are getting really good at coding on the ipads. They were showing me all of their new learning.

Today we started out new topic of patterns in maths, lots of us remembered this well from last year! We warmed up our literacy and reading heads while correcting some sentences that didn’t have capital letters and punctuation. This is something we are continuing to self monitor when doing our own writing.

In art we are building up to a bigger project and so we have began looking at primary and secondary colours. We experimented with mixing and for some of us we tied in our French learning and added in the written colour.

In outdoor learning we were tempting fate by making some snowmen out of flour and natural materials. They all turned out so well!

See you all next week.
