Hello everyone, we hope you all have had a great week! Here is a quick look at what we have been up to in nursery…..<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n

This week learning is\u2026 creativity, motor skills, team work, communication, balancing skills, hand\/eye coordination, numeracy, literacy, self confidence, exploring, predicting, being curious, sharing, self-esteem, technology, outdoor learning and problem solving.<\/span><\/h2>\n

Throughout our forest session today, all the children were engaged in their play. We had some chipping away on the fallen tree looking for treasure. We had a Who had squashed Miss Nelson mystery, in which the children role played policemen to discover who had done this. Lots of imaginative\u00a0 sharing ideas and thoughts\u00a0 in their play, along with having lots of fun too. We also discovered on arrival lots of logs ideal for sitting on around the camp fire whilst having snack. Some children spent time demonstrating their confidence to climb a range of trees. The children enjoyed a hot snack of beans and pitta bread along with a drink of milk or water.<\/p>\n

we\u2019re have been looking at colours linking this topic to celebrate Bonfire night along with discussing firework displays or if they are having these at their home. We talked about the different sounds, how each flew, zoomed or exploded into the night. We then created our own pictures using pipe cleaners to create the different explosions of colour. We used visual support through the computer and through text books.<\/p>\n

we have also focused on events occurring in the world around us by looking at Remembrance Day. This interest arose from a simple question on why they were wearing a flower on their top. We will watch a short video appropriate for the children\u2019s stage and will listen to some poems and stories too. Here they are creating their own images of poppies using only 3 colours.<\/p>\n

Following on from a current learning topic of Remembrance Day and wearing poppies. A group of children were observed being very creative using the blocks, confidently sharing when asked that it was a field of poppies. They then created an image in the floor book to share what they had made<\/p>\n

Outside through an intentional promotion a group of children were able to discuss and follow personal hygiene routines. The children were introduced to gloves and paint which indicated their hands and germs and a tuff tray with warm soapy water. The children asked what it was for which led to a group discussion. After Miss Nelson said \u201cI wonder if anyone could tell me why we wash our hands, the children said \u201cWe wash our hand to get all the germs off. We would get them from being outside.\u201d \u201cWe need to wash them.\u201d \u201cWater first, then soap, when they\u2019re soapy we would rinse them off.\u201d Miss Nelson asked \u201cI wonder if anyone could tell me how we get the water.\u201d \u201cWe push the button and the water comes out.\u201d This shows the children are becoming more aware of common appliances and how they work. \u201cThen we could dry our hands.\u201d \u201cAfter we\u2019ve washed our hands we can play or go outside.\u201d The children could confidently discuss why we would wash our hands using algorithm step by step guide and when we do it showing their awareness of simple sequences. \u201cWe wash them after toilet, before snack and lunch and when we come in from outside.\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s important so we don\u2019t get sick.\u201d \u201cDo you know if we were sick we would have to go to the doctors.\u201d \u201cThe doctors give you medicine.\u201d The children were able to identify who to contact if you get sick and discuss the role of a doctor. When asked I wonder if you could tell me who touches the medicine the children were able to discuss that it\u2019s grown ups only that touch it. \u201cI have 5 germs on my hand.\u201d \u201cI have 5 too.\u201d Through real life play the children could confidently show their awareness of numbers through their daily experience. The group of children enjoyed this experience and kept coming back to wash their hands.<\/p>\n

A group of children enjoyed a balanced snack today of fruits, oat cakes and freshly made orange juice by the children. We began discussing what foods give us energy which Finlay shared he thought that the bananas would give us the most energy and help us be strong.<\/p>\n

Outside some children created their own band using the musical instruments they sung along to we will rock you. They had a great idea of watching it on the smart board to see what other musical instruments the band were using. They used different material throughout the morning and discovered different sounds it made.<\/p>\n
