Week Beginning 12th May 2025

This week learning is… creativity, motor skills, team work, communication, balancing skills, hand/eye coordination, numeracy, literacy, self confidence, exploring, predicting, being curious, sharing, self-esteem, technology, outdoor learning and problem solving.

Monday 12th May

Today Cammy, Leo and Robin enjoyed role playing with the farm “We’re making a real farm.” “Let’s make a piggy one.” “Where’s the ducks they need to go here.” “Oh wait there’s no water.” Cammy used his initiative to use his blue T-shirt as water. “Do you know horses can jump over fences.” “Well we could use this stable instead.” The boys worked creatively together and spoke to each other to solve solutions and design problems to make the farm suitable for all the animals. They used their knowledge to ensure the animals had the correct things to keep them safe.

Today Innes, Flora, Rosie and Florence were practicing bridges. “You need to lift your head up a bit more so it makes you stronger.” Rosie was giving some advice on how to  keep a bridge for longer as she recalled her knowledge from gymnastics. Before practicing bridges the group of children did some stretches. “We need to stretch because it helps you when you exercise.”

Today outside Joni drew a picture starting off with a sun and diamonds. Joni moved on to drawing a star and independently recognised her achievements by saying. “Look I’ve drawn a proper star for the very first time.” Great work Joni ⭐

Tuesday 13th May

Today Zac, Jude, Thomas, Innes, Luke and Florence worked together to be responsible citizens as they communicated well together to put all the game pieces in the correct boxes.

Today Joni, Sehrish and Reuben used lots of different loose parts and tools in the home corner to expand their role play experience.

Today Lachlan, Elyn and Jackson were in the art area exploring the different colours. They mixed colours independently to create their lovely art pieces.

Wednesday 13th May

Today inside Jude was working with a peer to put away the dishes from the dishwasher after it finished its cycle.

Robin has created his own high tech mobile phone! Using his memory to think about what apps mummy has on her phone, Robin created a range of different buttons and spoke an adult through what the function of each one was. “This one is your steps, this is the shopping app, the 5 is the time because I know how to draw 5. This is to put the volume up and down and that one is the music button. You can spell with it too! There’s a mouse where I can find my pet if I lose it 🐭 I have a map if I don’t know where I am. The train tells you when you are late and need to go for your train. There’s a games button and you can phone people with this one and to turn it off, you can also see pictures you take. There’s an airplane to see when I’m going on holiday” Amazing work Robin! 📱

Today Jackson, Lachlan, and Emily-Rose enjoyed playing a game they created where someone has to carry a box and the others have to throw a sun hat inside whilst it’s moving ☀️.

Thursday 15th May

Today outside Euan used the tiger feet’s and said “look I’m a tiger.” Euan role played being a tiger while managing to balance on the tiger feet.

Today inside Annie, Jackson and Reuben used their communication skills to work together to decorate a box using the paints and crafts 🎨.

Today inside Gregor used his problem solving skills to put together a tricky puzzle, Gregor said he wanted to do it all by himself 🧩.

Today outside Brodie enjoyed passing the football back and forwards with the adults and peers. He was able to what a goal keeper does “I need to try not let people from the other team score.”

Friday 16th May

Today outside George enjoyed playing in the car. He identified there was no steering wheel so used his creativity and used one from our loose parts. George was able to discuss the steering wheel was from a real life car and he was going on an adventure to “the animal centre it’s like the zoo. But a different type of zoo.”

Today outside Robin and Leo were exploring forces through the cardboard tubes. They placed some of the farm animals down the tube and discovered they weren’t coming out of the bottom. After a lot of problem solving and discussing the boys decided to try something smaller and uncovered that the smaller objects worked better and went further out of the bottom.

Today outside Jackson, Lachlan and Euan used our new cardboard tubes to role play with. “We’re filmers.” “We’re filming people to put on the telly.” “Nee-naw nee-naw.” Euan pretended to be a fire engine as there was a big fire in the jungle with lots of trees. The boys said it was filmed to let everyone watching the telly know there was a fire.

The Nursery Team

Week beginning 5th May

Hello everyone, we hope you have had a lovely week. Here is a look at what we have been up to this week in nursery….

When walking back from the forest the past 2 weeks we have noticed bees crawling along the ground and warned others to watch out for them. Back at nursery, we used a bee book for research and to find out more about what the bees were doing. We took the book down and went to visit the beehive in the bottom garden area.
The children asked lots of questions they wanted to find out and shared the knowledge they already had about bees. We have added pictures and quotes to our learning wall in the room about our visit.

Children were using the mud kitchen to create soup together. They used a range of leaves and flowers to add as ingredients to their creation.

A group of children took part in activities based around listening and talking. We went around the garden to see what we could hear and spoke with our friends and made posters showing all of the things we could see and hear. Children confidently shared what they also heard at the forest as they spoke about birds and imagined what else they could possibly hear in the garden area.

We have been making the most of the sunshine in the garden as we explore the outdoor environment, making cosy spaces to read, climbing trees, rolling resources and role playing being out at see on the boat spotting sharks 🦈

Children have been displaying their creative skills as they paint in the art area and build in the block area. They collaborated their ideas and shared their achievements with others 🌈

A big happy birthday to Innes, Flora and Lochlan who all had birthdays this week 🥳

We hope you have a lovely weekend, remember your suncream, it’s going to be hot! ☀️😎

Wednesday 30th April

Brodie started to create a “chillax chair” using loose parts outside when Gregor and Jude shared their ideas of using the crates to use as a foot rest. The boys combined their ideas and came up with a relaxing place to sit in the sun and took turns independently ☀️

Elyn and Leo are using the new outdoor cushions to relax in the shade together in the reading area 📖

After a comment from a child about using the water tray to clean the cars, the children helped to create a car wash for outside using junk modelling and cut up cloths on the tuff tray 🧼 🚗

Thursday 1st May

Today in the mud kitchen a group of boys enjoyed role playing. “It’s a witch potion, whoever drinks it turns into a boy. If you’re a girl you turn into a boy and if you’re a boy you turn into a girl!” Leo, Jackson and Cammy are using the mud kitchen to create their own potion and are sharing all about what it can do 🧙‍♀️

Today inside Gregor wanted to participate in a number game. Gregor seen his peers playing the number game and asked to have a shot. Gregor confidently ordered numeral 1-5 without any support and independently used his fingers to show a missing number from the number line. Great job Gregor 🌟

Today outside Jackson, Reuben and Lachlan enjoyed sitting in the sun as they invested in some quiet time in the garden and look at a good book 📕

Friday 2nd May

Today inside Annie, George and Thomas explored more of their interest and learning of plants and flowers by planting sunflower seeds for the first time at nursery. They sparked discussions about the life cycle of a plant and what a plant requires to grow. The group of children confidently discussed the basic needs of a plant. “You need water and sunlight to make the flower grow.” “If they don’t get water they will die.” “Do you know a sunflower grows big, bigger than me.” We did some research using the iPad and discovered a sunflower grows up to 4.5m. “We could use tape to measure it when it’s grown” After planting the seeds the children were able to discuss step by step instructions on how to plant a flower seen.

This afternoon Jude was observed investigating the feelings area. He was using a range of natural resources to create facial expressions and sharing his understanding of facial expressions and feelings with the adult that using the correct language.

Today outside a group of children have made their very own crochet chain, bracelets and necklaces. They used their fine motor skills to help hold and thread the wool around the hook as they crocheted their item and added a bead to make a chain necklace and bracelet. The children used the scissors to cut the wool to size and is wearing it proudly. Great work everyone! The children shared their designs with one another and recognised their own and others achievements by saying “that looks so good well done” 🧶

Newport Nursery week of the 21.04.25

Hello everyone,  welcome back to Nursey., We hope that you all had  a lovely Easter break. Here is a  quick look at what we have been up to in nursery this week…..

This week learning is… creativity, motor skills, team work, communication, balancing skills, hand/eye coordination, numeracy, literacy, self confidence, exploring, predicting, being curious, sharing, self-esteem, technology, outdoor learning and problem solving.

Lots of interest in exploring and discovering new learning in a range of topics linked to lifecycles, such as from plants, insects and frogs, to trees and human beings. This has been researched through a range of different sources such as books, computers and iPads, along with a range of activities and experiences through the nursery.

Outside, a group of children took part in a planting experience where they planted some vegetables in a see through container so we could watch them grow and observe the length of the roots over time 🌱 The children took turns to put soil into the container whilst we discussed the growing process. The children were able to identify living and non living things. We said that plants and trees were living things and so were bunny rabbits and then said that the table, a jug and a spoon were not living things. The children shared that a living thing meant “it grows and needs water and food” and the table couldn’t be a living thing because “it doesn’t grow” 🌳This is what some children shared with us…..

“the carrots should go in the middle because they have more room” 🥕

“trees are living things and the sap is their blood” Joni “we need to grow too”

“dragon fruit grows in different countries, Spain, America”

“that’s how many centimetres they will grow there’s a measure”

On Wednesday the children continued to explore and develop their learning of plants and flowers by planting sunflower seeds for the first time at nursery. They sparked discussions about the life cycle of a plant and what a plant requires to grow. The children confidently shared their knowledge with others on the basic needs of a plant.

“You need water and sunlight to make the flower grow.”

“If they don’t get water they will die.”

“Do you know a sunflower grows big, bigger than me.”

“We did some research using the iPad and discovered a sunflower grows up to 4.5m.

“When they grow we could use a measuring tape to see how big they are.”

,Yesterday the children enjoyed creating a hungry caterpillar using and following a set of instructions. and to collect the correct amount of items they needed to create. They talked about the questions asked, some were able to recognise the question mark symbol too. They used skills to thread the paper and skills to create a small paper chain, adding the facial features at the end. Throughout all the children supported each other and engaged in dialogue throughout, giving praise at the end for each others achievements.

We have also been observing the children using a range of loose parts in their imaginative play that help them make sense of their world.  One child was seen being very busy with the large tyres,

. “I’m being just like my daddy. I’m fixing the tyres on the bus.”

He shared why a tyre is needed for the bus and that it helps the bus move.

Another child was seen using a large cardboard box in his play recreating his favourite storybook character Paddington going off to Peru. Whilst others choose to decorate theirs , sharing their ideas in using a range of colours, shapes and patterns.

Inside the children have been developing their own learning of symmetry through using a range of different experiences. Some have been enjoying sharing there skills to use the mouse to create symmetrical images that incorporate a range of shapes and other creative ideas. This then lead to the children exploring other mathematical games that incorporated a Geo board that promoted their developing  hand and eye co-ordination skills . Others games and creative activities have been occuring naturally throughout the week. inside or outside. Here are a few snaps shots of the childrens fun.

Week beginning 31st March 2025

Hello everyone we hope you have had a lovely week. Here is a look at what we have been up to…

We had a wonderful time down in the bottom garden on a few occasions this week. We explored the new loose parts and found different ways we could use these. Some used them for making a combine harvester and others used the tubes to crawl through.

The children have sustained their interest in the yoga mats this week as they continue to use these for exploring yoga positions alone, with a peer or showcasing their gymnastics moves to one another.

A group of children looked at light and shade today as they drew around each others bodies or shadows ☀️ They discussed what makes shadows and compared different shadow sizes.

we had our wonderful trip to the aquarium where we explored all the animals and learned some interesting facts. We also had an Easter egg hunt where we went around the aquarium looking for eggs in different enclosures. We took part in a shark talk where we learned about where they live and how sharks have eggs attached to them! We then went for a meerkat talk to find out about what they eat and how they find bugs 🐛 we then went to the beach where we collected loose parts such as shells and sticks and then used the sand to mark make in.

We created our own Easter egg hunt around the garden and in the nursery, we found 36 eggs in total! (And only one remains unfound 😅)

Happy Easter when it comes!

Reminders:

  • we are on holiday for 2 weeks and will return on Monday 21st April.
  • There will be no forest the first week back we will be at nursery as usual.
  • please remember to take all belongings such as water bottles and packed lunches home.

Week Beginning 24th March

This week learning is… creativity, motor skills, team work, communication, balancing skills, hand/eye coordination, numeracy, literacy, self confidence, exploring, predicting, being curious, sharing, self-esteem, technology, outdoor learning and problem solving.

Monday 24th March

Today Joni and Sehrish worked together to create a den. They tried different ways to make it until they worked together to discuss it would be better as a circle. “W can use the smart board as a movie.” The girls asked for the gingerbread man story to listen to while in their den. They also discussed what they needed. “We need pillows and 2 books because there is only two of us here.”

Today outside Flora, Rosie and Innes are comparing skills as they jump between the yoga mats and create their own game.

Rosie- “Flora can you jump like this without touching the middle, I can”.

Flora- “that’s easy, look what I can do”

Innes- “the middle is lava, Flora you touched the lava you’re the lava monster!” 🌋

Today in the block area Jackson, Gregor and Cammy worked independently using different sized and shaped blocks to create models of different objects.

Jackson – “I’m making scarecrows they live on a farm and scare birds away.”

Cammy – “I’ve made a crocodile it swims and it eats fishes. It’s green and has spikes.”

Gregor – “I’m making a toilet for everyone to sit on.”

Tuesday 25th March

Today Reuben and Zac are enjoying the sunshine and raced down the hill. “I win I win.” The boys enjoyed racing each other and looked out for peers while running to not bump into them.

Today Elyn, Brodie, Leo, Cammy and Robin found a feather out in the forest. They had a group discussion about birds. “I think it’s a pigeon feather as it’s the same colour as one.” “Do you know that when birds are sick they loose some of their feathers.” This sparked conversation about how to care for birds in the environment. “They would need a bird nest or bird house to keep warm.” “We could give them bird feed and water too.”

Today Lachlan and Jackson used their gross motor skills to roll down the hill and described what they were doing as they were rolling down. “Watch out.”

Wednesday 26th March

“We’ve made out own bedroom!” Joni, Euan and Jude have been using the outdoor cushions in the house to make a comfy floor to lie on and to make into a comfy bed area together 🛌

This afternoon Luke and Florence were observed using tools to scrap amongst the rock floor. They first described that they were weeding, then they stared to discuss that they were looking for dinosaur bones. Luke could confidently named the role of a dinosaur bone hunter, “ they are called a Palaeontologist”.

Flora, Gregor, Innes and Rosie are reading outside in the sunshine as they discuss how many pages they have read and compare 🌞

Thursday 27th March

Annie assisted an adult with measuring in the nursery today. Annie was able to find a tool that would help to measure from the woodwork bench and could identify that the sand tray was “8” and from Miss McKenzies head to her toes had a number with “9” in it, great measuring Annie! 😁

Following on from an interest in volcanoes yesterday, the children were interest to learn more about sea volcanoes. This inspired lots of discussions about the steam, lava, rocks and creatures. One child explained that there was poisonous gases too and how it killed all the creatures around. This lead to discovering how new islands were formed, leading onto lifecycles of plants and creatures. They extended to look at how volcanoes in the past occurred with the dinosaurs, and how the coastline on countries changed. Lots of lovely learning occurred through this interest with lots of questions asked and others confidently sharing their knowledge.

Friday 28th March

Today Sehrish and Fraser enjoyed role playing in the home corner. They used their communication skills to work together to create a meal for the baby.

Today George, Euan, Thomas, Elyn and Flora helped create a lovely card for Pauline. The group of children wrote independently and creating lovely pictures to share on to the card.

Today Rosie and Elyn enjoyed creating her own tulip 🌷. With a little bit of support they used origami to create a model of a tulip and independently coloured it in and added their own stem.

The Nursery Team

Newport Nursery week of the 17.03.25

Hello everyone, we hope you have had a great week! Here is a look at what we have been up to in nursery…..

This week learning is… creativity, motor skills, team work, communication, balancing skills, hand/eye coordination, numeracy, literacy, self confidence, exploring, predicting, being curious, sharing, self-esteem, technology, outdoor learning and problem solving.

Outside this wek has been very busy and with the weather being so sunny and warm the children have been involved in  a range of different experiences. On Monday following from lots of interest in dinosaurs in the block area. The adult created a dinosaur land using the the turf trays and sand. It contained arange of loose parts to further deepen and expand the childrens imagination in their play.

The children demonstrated skills of role playing with the people and dinosaurs, using loose parts around the garden to make their own stories of dinosaurs up.”He’s stuck in the storm, he can’t get out.” “He can only get out if it’s sunny.” “He’s now fallen into quick sand.” “I hope the sun gets him out.” The children confidently discussed weathers that can affect us and how they impact on the environment.

“Did you know storms can wreck houses.”

The group of children went on to talk about what dinosaurs might eat.

“I think they eat leaves and tree.”

“I don’t know what they eat.

Can we use the computer to find out.”

“Or we could use a book.”

The children are beginning to show their understanding of different ways we can find out information. research . The group of children discussed the similarities and differences of the dinosaurs. “They are all dinosaurs but this one has spikes.”

“This one has a long neck.” “And this one is smaller.”

They also discussed the different shape and sizes of feet and used the sand to create patterns of the dinosaurs feet. The children understood that there was similarities and differences due to dinosaurs being different types which we all explored using books and the computer. The children demonstrated good communication skills by listening and talking to each other appropriately and sharing the resources.

Yesterday in the forest the children were engaged in a range of different experiences. Some were exploring and using sticks to dig. Others used climbing skills to see what the best tree was to climb. Some enjoyed a range of stories especially listening to a sound version of Going on a bear hunt that was sung. This led to a game of hide and seek where the children needed to follow clues sent for the children to find them that showed images of their whereabouts in the surrounding area. This lasted a good length of time before we.returned back to nursery. We will continue promoting a range of these types of experiences that promoted team work, sharing ideas , engaging and recalling their surrounding area whilst having great fun too.

We are continuing our celebrations of others festivals and religious beliefs through celebrating St Patricks Day. The children enoyed watching a short video and creating their own very glittery four leaf clover.

Also this week we have been looking at the seasonal changes that are occuring with the days getting lighter and warmer, along with the children noticing the colourful flowers and leaves. Along with the forth coming Eater bunny arriving too. We created a visual area containing items, books on Spring, Easter and the different lifecycles that occur in nature around. We set up the focused painting area with colourful spring paints, images and flowers for the children to capture in their art work. They discussed how the caterpillars turn into butterflies, and how the plants grow. They were able to name the different parts of the flower, even the roots too.

Throughout the week the children have enjoyed participating in a range of dance movement experiences, were they needed to demonstrate skills to listen, watch and follow the instructions. This inspired less confident children to experience these activities too. The children also enjoyed demonstrating their yoga/pilaties movements when using the yoga mats outside. They used pictures to copy a range of different positions to put their bodies through.

We have observed lots of different play occurring in and around the nursery this week with the children developing their own learning from creating models and discussing which has more or less. To playing games and sharing ideas to create new games with each other, taking turns , giving support and showing respect.

Also this week the children have been evaluating their own learning wall on the Animal topic. Week beginning 10th March

Hello everyone! We hope you’ve had a great week, here is a look at what we have been up to…..

Children have been using the giant snakes and ladders game mat outside where they explored turn taking and problem solving.  Children spoke about how many spaces the did and didn’t want to move on their next roll of the dice and where they would have to go if they landed on a snake or ladder.

A group of children played the jack and the beanstalk game for the first time were they spoke about turn taking and shapes. The children compared the different groups of shapes to guess who had the most and the least and counting to check.

Children were able to explore the book fair during nursery time where children, with the help of some P7’s, chose and bought there own books where they experiences giving and receiving change.

It was international school meals day on Thursday where the children had the choice of sweet and sour chicken with either rice or noodles.

Children have been showcasing their work and celebrating their own achievements as they share how they have tidied areas in the nursery as a team.

At the forest, children took part in a big hunt where pictures of bugs were hidden around the forest and the children had a checklist that they ticked every time they found that insect or bug 🐛 Children worked together to share where they found the bugs and what ones their friends needed to tick off next. The children then created their own giant leaf pile before jumping into it together 🍂

Children have been engaging in lots of role play as they discuss families and family members. They have also been using the loose parts to cook with in the home corner.

Children have been looking at counting and clapping out different beats on a smartboard game. The children had to listen to how many drum taps there were and select the right number at the end. The children then independently demonstrated this using their hands to copy the amount of beats they heard.

Thomas and Fraser have been using the bee bot map as a car map and are role playing using a range of different vehicles together 🚗

Monday 3rd March

With world book day this week. An interest tray was set up with the Gruffalo to spark interest of stories. Rosie, Leo, Euan and Innes showed interest of this tray as they spoke about parts of the story they liked. “I like the bit with the owl.” “I like the mouse because he chases everyone back into their house.” “I like the fox bit because I just like foxes.” “I like the mouse because it find the Gruffalo.” Both the Gruffalo and the Gruffalo’s child was out on display the children were asked what book was their favourite. “I like both books the same.” “I like the Gruffalo’s child better.” While observing their play they were beginning to talk about personal experiences linking to the stories. “The woods is just like berries den.” “The glitter side is like Christmas with snow.” The children used the puppets to retell the story and then used other characters to create their own version of the Gruffalo “Sonic you need to touch some snow.” “I don’t like snow.” “Let’s fly away from the snow.” “Look a den.” “There’s no space for everyone.” “We need to build another.” The children confidently waited their turn and concentrated very well to tell the next part of the story and independently shared resources.

This afternoon Emily and Fraser spending time at the nail bar engaged in simple role playing, using skills to engage and negotiate with each other. Fraser used his fine motor to manipulate the tops, twisting on and off, then hand and eye coordination to place the varnish onto the nails. Emily then proudly showed them off.

Tuesday 4th March

Today at the forest Innes, Reuben, Zac, Rosie, Flora, Sehrish and Joni enjoyed the den that had been built. “It’s like a house but a bit small.” “It’s very windy in here.” The children shared their thoughts and worked together to problem solve how they could block out the wind. “I know we could use our bags.” The children worked together to carry their bags over to block the wind coming into the den.

Today at the forest Jackson, Cammy and Leo were taking turns moving the tree developing their gross motor skills while playing work men. “We need to climb to cut the tree down. Which Robin and Jude then took an interest in as well and joined in their play.

Today at the forest Florence, Gregor, Innes and Flora used their spacial awareness to watch out for friends while running around the forest playing “rats and pussy cats” where the pussy cats chase the rats to swap roles.

Wednesday 5th March

This afternoon a group of children were busy working together to complete a range of jigsaws. They worked the way through a dinosaur and Pater Pan, then we looked at a range of feelings and they could confidently describe what they could see in the completed puzzle. They used skills to turn the pieces and to colour match the image.

With world book day tomorrow some of our children created their own story. A group of children created their own dreams and fairy tale by creating their own story using the book You Choose. They all enjoyed it and asked to do more.

Thursday 6th March

Today outside Annie and Reuben used the seeds from Annie’s costume to care for the nature in our environment. “We are going to feed the birds.” “I think the birds will like that”. Annie and Reuben confidently used the seeds from Annie’s bag to feed the birds in the nursery garden.

Today Euan, Innes, Gregor, Brodie, Sehrish, Joni and Rosie are developing their gross motor skills. The confidently and independently preformed and repeated dance moves while dancing along to a holiday park video. They used the space creatively and ensured they never bumped into their peers. “Can we do another one.” The children were keen to have another dance video they could copy.

This morning we had a tea party theme to the story book Alice in Wonderland. We had triangle sandwiches of cheese or Ham, with had the Hungry caterpillar made with grapes and cucumber along with a pot of apple juice for tea. We also made jam tarts but unfortunately they got stuck in the baking trays so we quickly made more. This was a good example to show the children that sometimes things don’t work, so we keep trying. Afterwards the children gave a big thumbs up to the snack.

Today inside using loose parts and junk modelling Cameron, Leo, Jackson and Brodie worked together using their imagination to create a castle.

Friday 7th March

Today more children enjoyed finding out about other people’s cultural and religious beliefs by creating a gift/money box top celebrating Ramadan. They used skills to decorate using a range of materials, recognising how the glue was very sticky and it made lots of mess.

Today the children were talking about healthy foods. They decided to help make smoothies at snack today. They discussed how the blender works and what ingredients were needed. They confidently helped mix the milk and fruit into a  smoothie.

The Nursery Team

Newport Nursery week of the 24.02.25

Hello everyone, we hope you have had a great week! Here is a look at what we have been up to in nursery…..

This week learning is… Exploring, Predicting, Being Curious, Literacy, Mathematics, Sharing, Self-Esteem, Creativity, Motor Skills, Turn Taking, Technology, Outdoor Learning and Problem Solving…..

On Monday a group of children outside after noticing the till shared ideas and thoughts to create a small cafe that incorporatd the use of the mud kitchen.  They used skills to problem solve whilst gathering resources needed.

“I need a table and some chairs”

“I want to make stuff”

They worked with the adult to gather more resources, making the cafe come to light. They shared their knowldege through their own experiences, recognising the terms of buying and selling. They used a range of descruptive language to describe the cakes they had made ready to sell. They talked avbout beung in a cafe and cooking the need to be safe. This play inspired others to expeerience, and which was then extended into creating a real life cafe on the Wednesday morning for their snack.

On Wednesday the children were welcomed into the cafe experience. They were then able to select what food items from the menu. supporting a range of early reading and writing skills, but the freedom, rights to be able to choose their own plate of food. Some children helped to make the orders in the kitchem, and afterwards all the children shared their enjoyment of this experience asking if they could do this again.

In the forest this week the children engaged in various forms of physical activities, recognising the need for safety when they were climbing the trees. Some children discussed creating a treasure hunt, which we will develop with the children on how and what items they would like to find. Whilst there they enjoyed a hot snack and drink, returning happily back to nursery discussing what signs, numbers etc they could see.

During a natural converstion with a couple of children about bitting their nails, it evolved into talking about having  nails done at a salon. This then extended into the children asking for their own Nail bar. This the adult took forward with the support of the children creating a list of items needed. Permission obtained and we have observed a wonderful respnse from the children engaging with each other, taking different roles from being a customer to being the technician. The children demonstrated skills to negoiate with each other deciding on colours, design and pattern. But it also encourages fine motor skills through challenge to show accuracy through painting, but also skills to screww the top on and off. It also supports skills in using money to buy and sell, recognising moneu value and to add up the totals of the treatments offered. They used skills to mark make by booking in appointment, time and what treatment they wanted.

Throughout the room the children inside and outside have been developing their own learning through a range of resources, displaying skills to problem solve and working with others. Some have been using the smartboard, whilst others using games and puzzles.

The learning wall is still going through a group of children asking to find out more about the speed of different animals after sharing with the adult what they knew already.

“I know what the fastest birds that fly, and the no fly birds are”  “Its the Peregrine falcon and a Ostrich”

“I want to know the fastest Lizard”

“I want to know what the slowest snake is”

“Whats the fastest farm animal”

This research is now added to the wall for you all to see what they discovered.
