Week Beginning 24th March

This week learning is… creativity, motor skills, team work, communication, balancing skills, hand/eye coordination, numeracy, literacy, self confidence, exploring, predicting, being curious, sharing, self-esteem, technology, outdoor learning and problem solving.

Monday 24th March

Today Joni and Sehrish worked together to create a den. They tried different ways to make it until they worked together to discuss it would be better as a circle. “W can use the smart board as a movie.” The girls asked for the gingerbread man story to listen to while in their den. They also discussed what they needed. “We need pillows and 2 books because there is only two of us here.”

Today outside Flora, Rosie and Innes are comparing skills as they jump between the yoga mats and create their own game.

Rosie- “Flora can you jump like this without touching the middle, I can”.

Flora- “that’s easy, look what I can do”

Innes- “the middle is lava, Flora you touched the lava you’re the lava monster!” 🌋

Today in the block area Jackson, Gregor and Cammy worked independently using different sized and shaped blocks to create models of different objects.

Jackson – “I’m making scarecrows they live on a farm and scare birds away.”

Cammy – “I’ve made a crocodile it swims and it eats fishes. It’s green and has spikes.”

Gregor – “I’m making a toilet for everyone to sit on.”

Tuesday 25th March

Today Reuben and Zac are enjoying the sunshine and raced down the hill. “I win I win.” The boys enjoyed racing each other and looked out for peers while running to not bump into them.

Today Elyn, Brodie, Leo, Cammy and Robin found a feather out in the forest. They had a group discussion about birds. “I think it’s a pigeon feather as it’s the same colour as one.” “Do you know that when birds are sick they loose some of their feathers.” This sparked conversation about how to care for birds in the environment. “They would need a bird nest or bird house to keep warm.” “We could give them bird feed and water too.”

Today Lachlan and Jackson used their gross motor skills to roll down the hill and described what they were doing as they were rolling down. “Watch out.”

Wednesday 26th March

“We’ve made out own bedroom!” Joni, Euan and Jude have been using the outdoor cushions in the house to make a comfy floor to lie on and to make into a comfy bed area together 🛌

This afternoon Luke and Florence were observed using tools to scrap amongst the rock floor. They first described that they were weeding, then they stared to discuss that they were looking for dinosaur bones. Luke could confidently named the role of a dinosaur bone hunter, “ they are called a Palaeontologist”.

Flora, Gregor, Innes and Rosie are reading outside in the sunshine as they discuss how many pages they have read and compare 🌞

Thursday 27th March

Annie assisted an adult with measuring in the nursery today. Annie was able to find a tool that would help to measure from the woodwork bench and could identify that the sand tray was “8” and from Miss McKenzies head to her toes had a number with “9” in it, great measuring Annie! 😁

Following on from an interest in volcanoes yesterday, the children were interest to learn more about sea volcanoes. This inspired lots of discussions about the steam, lava, rocks and creatures. One child explained that there was poisonous gases too and how it killed all the creatures around. This lead to discovering how new islands were formed, leading onto lifecycles of plants and creatures. They extended to look at how volcanoes in the past occurred with the dinosaurs, and how the coastline on countries changed. Lots of lovely learning occurred through this interest with lots of questions asked and others confidently sharing their knowledge.

Friday 28th March

Today Sehrish and Fraser enjoyed role playing in the home corner. They used their communication skills to work together to create a meal for the baby.

Today George, Euan, Thomas, Elyn and Flora helped create a lovely card for Pauline. The group of children wrote independently and creating lovely pictures to share on to the card.

Today Rosie and Elyn enjoyed creating her own tulip 🌷. With a little bit of support they used origami to create a model of a tulip and independently coloured it in and added their own stem.
