HHello everyone, we hope you all have had a great holiday! Here is a quick look at what we have been up to in nursery…..
This week learning is… creativity, motor skills, team work, communication, balancing skills, hand/eye coordination, numeracy, literacy, self confidence, exploring, predicting, being curious, sharing, self-esteem, technology, outdoor learning and problem solving.
Monday 26th January
Today outside a group of children shared their thoughts with Miss McKenzie about turning the house into a cosy story den. The children worked well with Miss McKenzie to help move things to make it look cosy. They suggested adding blankets and lights too. 📖
Today, Twinkle the unicorn came to speak to the children about brushing their teeth and how to keep their mouths healthy. Everyone had a turn at brushing Twinkles teeth and asked and answered a range of questions relating to tooth brushing. Children were able to discuss foods and drinks that were healthy and unhealthy for their teeth and the process of cleaning them. Well done everyone 🦷 🪥

Another group of children continued their interest in UNO today as they requested to play it together. They were able to share, take turns and colour/number match and even supported one another to make the best choice of card to play next 🃏
Tuesday 27th January
Today a group of children have been working together to fit the puzzle pieces together and confidently tidied up when they were finished. 🧩
Today individual children have spending time together creating pictures using the coloured buttons on boards with pictures behind to copy or create their own. 🟡🔴🔵🟢
Today a group of children enjoyed exploring the dolls house. They used different characters to role play and recalled their learning they have participated in by reflecting on our learning wall. 🏡
Wednesday 28th January
Today a group of children engaged with the adult to help plan some snack ideas. They decided on strawberry pancakes using the iPad to search for healthy sugar free options, which we found. Next step to write a shopping list which they started with using their developing letter recognition to write Greek yoghurt using a space in between the words. 🥞
Today inside a group of children identified they needed a rest and cosied into the cosy den with a blanket over them to have some chilled time. 🕰️

Today inside an individual child created a model for their astronaut using different sizes and shapes of blocks. 🧑🚀
Thursday 29th January
Today inside a group of children are continuing their interest of homes and houses. Through an intentional promotion they used loose parts and their knowledge to create people who live with them. They used a mixture of stones, pine cones, shells, and sticks to create models of their family members. They were able to discuss how many people live in their house as well as counting with one to one correspondence and subitising. They discussed how many rooms are in their house as well as what features it has such as windows, doors, stairs and garages.
Today inside a group of children independently followed rules to the dotty dinosaur game. They confidently took turns at rolling the dice and taking their shot and reminded each other when it was their turn. 🦖
Today inside a group of children enjoyed exploring the art area. They used the crayons to draw themselves. They spoke about features they have such as long hair, short hair, eyes and independently drew themselves with lots of different colours. 🖍️
Friday 30th January
Today a group of children have been creative in the art area and other areas of the nursery. A group of children have been using the art area to create different models and pictures having a good look at what resources are available to them they independently chose what to use. Another group of children have been creative pictures on paper with lots of different coloured pens. 🖊️
Today a group of children worked together to create a den using the pillows and blankets in ten cosy den. They independently worked together by sharing their ideas on how to put a blanket up as a door. They used the clips to clip the blanket on the cosy den and chairs to hold in place as they climbed inside cosied up and enjoyed some sociable conversations. 🗣️
Today a few children identified there was lots of sand on the floor they used their initiative and became responsible citizens as they cleaned it up. They found dustpan and brushes and said “I need to sweep this up so no one falls.” Great team work. ⭐️
Our Cosy Time Library 📚 This will be available to families at drop off and pick up time every day for you and your child to choose a book to take home to read 🏡There is no time limit on our library books we would just ask that you ask a members of the team to help sign the book with your child’s name, the title of the book they have taken, the date it was taken and when it was returned ✍️There will be pens available for you to sign the books in and out. If your child has any special requests for a certain book please ask a member of staff or send a message on seesaw and we can help you 😃There will be a folder with your child’s name for them to put the book in for its journey to home and back 📁A tray will be available for you to put in your returned books so we can quarantine and clean them before putting them on display again, if you have any questions, any member of staff would be happy to help ☺️
Loose Parts.
We are always in need of replenishing our loose parts in nursery. If you are out and about on walks, or are planning to recycle items, can we ask that you think of us first please 😃
Here is some of the items we are looking for:
Conkers, stones, shells, tea cups, sticks, picture frames, plates, wood, drainpipes any old garden furniture such as chairs, tables or parasols, etc, anything you think might be of used in nursery.
Reminders
- Can all parents label items of your child’s clothing.
- Can all parents put in at least one full change of clothing for water play and accidents.
- Can all parents if your child has a packed lunch can we please ensure grapes and big fruits are cut to minimise the risk of choking.🍇
- Can we remind all parents\carers to park in a white space only as the yellow spaces are for staff only.
- If your child is going to be picked up by someone else, please let the ladies know or the office so we are aware.
- Can we ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for all the weather conditions that may arise.
- Can we ensure when you are leaving the nursery that the gate is locked.
- Can all parents ensure your child has a set of waterproofs and wellies to enable play outside when it’s wet.
- Our nursery blog is sent out every week on a Friday afternoon.
