Week Beginning Monday 10th November

Hello everyone, we hope you all have had a great week! Here is a quick look at what we have been up to in nursery…..

This week learning is… creativity, motor skills, team work, communication, balancing skills, hand/eye coordination, numeracy, literacy, self confidence, exploring, predicting, being curious, sharing, self-esteem, technology, outdoor learning and problem solving.

Monday 10th November

Today inside a group of children worked together to communicate and share their ideas when creating models in the block area. They used different sized, shaped and coloured blocks to create a land for dinosaurs. They confidently described their model and discussed their reasoning for each part. 👷🏼‍♂️

Today outside a group of children noticed some orange blobs on the bug hotel outside. They weren’t sure what it was so we decided to use the iPad to research it. We found out it was a type of fungus that grows outside in damp conditions. The group of children wanted everyone to be safe so used chalk to warn people in the area and made sure to wash their hands really well in case they touched any by accident. 🍄

Today both inside and outside the children have been expressing their likes for story books and texts. They independently selected a book and were able to retell them from the pictures in the book. 📕

Today outside a group of children have been problem solving together after noticing a ball stuck in a wooden reel outside. One peer suggested using a stick and the other then went and got a stick to try from the other side because one stick wasn’t working. They managed to free the ball and then had to problem solve how to get the ball again after it landed in the middle of a large puddle that they couldn’t reach! ☔️

Tuesday 11th November

Today a group of children enjoyed exploring different features on the IPad as we worked together to create a fact book about sharks and whales. They helped research and chose different pictures and drawings to feature in their book. 🦈

Outside today, a group of children have been looking at the rain gauge to see how much rain we have captured. An adult said “it’s raining lots today” and they remembered about the gauges and ran to the plant pot and said “let’s see how much!”. They recognised which had more in it and counted up to 36 lines on the side to share how much had been caught .☔️

Today a small group worked together to sing and move to a range of movement and songs. Developing their literacy, physical and numeracy skills as they sung movement and counting songs. 🎶

Wednesday12th November

Today at forest a group of children used sticks on the fallen down tree to dig a big hole to look for treasure. They discussed that they were pretending it was a mine they were able to discuss that’s where special diamond’s, crystals and shiny stones live. 🔮

Today at the forest a group of children explored mark making on different materials as they dug up mud and used the mud to create lovely drawings on the tree. 🌳

Today a group of children enjoyed exploring the fire at the forest and discussed what their senses. They discussed colours they could see on the wood and the flames. They discussed that they need to stay away from the fire to keep safe and won’t burn ourselves. They discussed their favourite snacks beans, porridge and pasta. 🍝

Today at the forest a group of children have been developing their physical skills as they have been using their gross motor skills and balance skills to keep on the rope swing. 🪢

Thursday13th November

Today in the block area a group of children used different shapes, sized, coloured blocks and loose parts to create a model of an animal world. “It’s for cows, sheep’s and dinosaurs.” “It’s for big and small animals.” “We look after them by keeping them dry and warm.” “We put coats on them and feed them too.” 🐾

Today in the home corner a group of children engaged in some role play. They created their own story as they used their own words while playing. “We’re playing families.” “It was my birthday in the game.” “I got presents and cake.” “I made the cake it was raspberry and chocolate cake.” 🎂

Today a group of children have been exploring shape through their daily experiences as they have been investigating jigsaw puzzles. The group of children worked together to create the Elmer jigsaw while turning pieces if required. 🧩
