Monday 30th September

All the children are becoming more confident with daily routines as they independently place their lunch boxes and water bottles back on their shelf before brushing their teeth.

Today has been a day of being creative outside with loose parts and different materials.

Today a group of children were very proud of the den that they had made to protect the buggies from the rain. They helped each other to lift the stand to put the blanket underneath to stop it from blowing away and helped add the blanket and find tools to make the blanket stay in place. Great team work!

“King of the castle!” a child said as they climbed on top of the crates. Another child also joined in and they have now turned the crates into boats 🚤 “I’m the captain” said one of the children.

Tuesday 1st October

Today a group of children used the big tree as an ice cream van and a Pokémon house. They said “it has 51 ice cream flavours, my favourite is chocolate and toffee and mines is vanilla and strawberry.” They were able to discuss as menu and what a menu is used for as well as talking about how they would keep the ice cream cold using the freezer.

Today a group of children helped build with the tarpaulin and bungee cords. Once we had pegged it down they decided they didn’t wants to us it as a den and wanted to use it as a climbing frame and slide instead. They were able to risk assess and talk about how we could keep safe using it. “If someone is underneath no one is on top.” “We talk to our friends to se how they are feeling.”

Today a group of children waited patiently and turn took by using their communication skills to wait for their turn on the rope swing. They confidently discussed how to stay say at the swing. “One at a time and stand back”.

Today a group of children explored mark making using different materials today. The group of children used the dry mud to create shapes and pictures in the mud using their fingers and sticks.

Wednesday 2nd October

Today a group of children helped to prepare a baking activity for snack after the kitchen had given the nursery some extra bananas. We looked at our resources we had in the cupboard and selected banana scones. They used skills to make bread crumbs, mashed and mix and cut out. Along with counting skills up to 24 They enjoyed eating the scones either with honey or butter along with fresh strawberries and raspberry fruit mix. They all agreed that they were amazing and yummy!

Today, groups of children have been creating a mind map to think about who helps us at home. Children were able to think about all the different family, friends and carers and what they do for us to make us feel safe, loved and cared for. Children shared ideas such as “cooking dinner for me” “take me to nursery” “give me cuddles” “help me learn” 🖋️ 💕

Today a group of children were discussing holidays and asked to create a beach. “That beach looks so good”. With a lot of discussion about beaches and what we could find on a beach we worked together to find resources to create our own beach. The children respected the resources and placed them nicely in the sand and water. We need sharks and dolphins “that’s a big shark and that’s a small one.” The children were discussing different animals and their different sizes. “I’ve seen a dolphin when it was very hot”. This then lead to conversations about what we would wear in hot countries and how we would travel to get on holiday. “We need to wear sun cream and sun hats when it’s hot”. “I’m going on a aeroplane to go to London” “I’ll be sitting on a aeroplane to go to Tenerife”. Another peer then said “I got a boat before”. Through observation of watching the group of children playing with the beach they were discussing what would happen if a shark bit them “you would phone an ambulance they help you.” “Yeah you would go to hospital and the doctor would make you better.” They also discussed personal experiences and different holidays they have been on with their families. After this they then role played with the different animals from the sea.

Thursday 3rd October

Through daily play a group of children role played in the home corner. They started off with mums and babies and added a cafe as the mums job. They pretended to cry “the baby is sad” “we need to make her smile to make her happy.” The group of children showed a good under of feelings and emotions people may feel and how they can support them. “You need to give the baby milk.” “You take them for a walk so they go to sleep and give them air.“ “I’m going to the shops to get 5 bags of shopping I need my money and I’ll take the baby with me”“I need to rock my baby to go to sleep.” “She’s not done the toilet yet so we don’t need to change her nappy.” The group of children confidently showed how to care for and look after a baby through role playing. “Mum what can I have to eat” “we have some gummy wipes”. “We have broccoli and carrots that’s healthy for you.” “Sweeties is not healthy though you get ill if you eat too many.” The group of children demonstrated a good understanding of healthy foods and healthy choices we could make instead. “The baby is sick we need to call the doctor they will help us. They might give us medicine to make you feel better.” “I can’t touch the medicine because it’s not safe.” “Mummy you need to give me it.” The girls are showing understanding of medicines and when we use them. The children said they baby got sick macaroni cheese she had made for her. “Now you’ve had your medicine it’s time to go to bed.” “I need my dummy it’s night time but it’s underneath the bed.” “I’ve got it for you baby” “Night Night mummy.” A couple of the children used the sand timer to indicate when bed time was over.

Today a group of children worked together using the different sized, shaped and coloured blocks to create a boat. “We’ve made a boat and look we have made a house for the dog.” “We made a boat to travel around to catch animals and eat them.” This led to discussion about different foods and products we get from different animals. “We can get wool from sheep and eggs from chickens.” “We also get milk from cows.”  “It’s a house boat that means we live in it.” This led to a discussion about other homes people have such as a caravan, house and flats.

Whilst inside a group of children explored the music area using a range of different materials to create sounds. They could confidently show understanding of loud, quieter, faster and slow when asked questions by the adult. They also used the radio and made it loud and quiet.

Friday 4th October

Today a group of children asked to create something different on the tuff tray. “Can we make something on the tuff tray just not a beach.” We used the computer to research ideas. The children spotted a few they liked and asked to create a dinosaur themed one. “Can we make a dinosaur one.” “I think that’s a good idea I like dinosaurs.” “We need grass, blocks and leaves.” We worked together to collect resources the children noticed there was no leaves and problem solved and used lavender instead. “The dinosaurs can eat it.”

Today, everyone joined in for a bookbug session where the story was all about going on holiday as children shared their plans for the October holidays.

Children created an obstacle course outside using the wooden blocks. Children put their ideas and plans together to come up with a great idea. Children were independent in taking turns, negotiating, team work and balancing.
