Hello everyone, we hope you have had a great week! Here is a look at what we have been up to in nursery……
This week learning is… Exploring, Predicting, Being Curious, Literacy, Mathematics, Sharing, Self-Esteem, Creativity, Motor Skills, Turn Taking, Technology, Outdoor Learning and Problem Solving.
Whilst outside the children have been continuing their interest to explore and investigate using the playdough materials and a range of tools and utensils. They used the correct language to describe and predict the outcomes whilst involved in a very fun but sticky experience.
“We need scoops and spoons to mix”.
“we need more flour, its sticky”
“Now we need more water”.
We have also been revamping the sound area outside using loose pats that allows the children to explore a range of different sounds they can make. The adult worked with the children to listen to their ideas on what where and how they could do these.. These supports our nursery vision and children’s rights of listening to and valuing the children’s thoughts and feelings along with the children actively taking responsibility of their learning environment. Afterwards we observed and heard lots of different sounds coming from this area- exploring the different tools to make these sounds, using language to describe the sounds such has loud, very loud, faster, slower.
A group of children are also showing an interest to further develop their own learning interest by asking a range of questions . One child asked ..
“What makes wind”
“I like the wind, it blows on my face”
They recalled past storms stating that lots of trees came down, and it made lots of noise. They were also able to share their learning from the research given and being shown a short educational video on how wind is made to their parents. We have started a floor book that will show all the other learning interest researched by the children. This will be in the basket located in the story area for you to look through. Some children enjoyed using the natural counting sticks to recognise and match the quantity to that number. Afterwards using these to be creative and shared these thoughts with others.
The children are continuing their interest to develop essential skills in using scissors outside in using the lavender to cut and prepare delicious dishes. They are recalling the need to use these safety by listening to the advice given by the adults, and then demonstrating this by how they hold them whilst walking, and when not in use.
We have also observed children using the puppets and the puppet show retelling their favourite stories in their own words. This is continued with a group of children using the puppets whilst listening to the story outside. One child listened to her favourite story then she re-read the story by herself, discussing what happens in the story, along with the characters feelings. The smartboard is being used well either to further develop their mark making skills or to complete a range of jigsaws linked to the Autumn theme.
In the forest this week the children enjoyed role playing superheroes using the trees has vehicles and sticks to combat the not so nice characters in their play. The children are especially enjoying using the rope swing, demonstrating skills to move, balance and hold whilst learning to share and take turns. They enjoyed pancakes and butter along with hot chocolate or water to drink. On the way back a group of children enjoyed sharing their knowledge of the area, and are beginning to recognise signs and print in the environment.
