Newport Nursery week of the 2.09.24

Hello everyone, we hope you have had a great week! Here is a look at what we have been up to in nursery……

This week learning is… Exploring, Predicting, Being Curious, Literacy, Mathematics, Sharing, Self-Esteem, Creativity, Motor Skills, Turn Taking, Technology, Outdoor Learning and Problem Solving.

A group of children took advantage of the the very wet weather at the beginning of the week to have lots of fun splashing around in the very large puddle that formed in the nursery garden, They recalled the need to dress appropriately, showing skills of independence in dressing  themselves, and knowing when to ask for support. They used a range of skills to see who could make the biggest splash along with the correct language to describe. Outside the children have been observed demonstrating skills in using the balance bikes and scooters well, recalling the need to wear the helmets provided, along with skills to den build and make a range of large structures with the loose parts.

In the art area the children have been focusing on creating their own self portraits through looking in a mirror, and to share how they are feeling at nursery and what they like to do  when they are here with the adult. We will also extend this learning experience to research famous portrait artists and their work too.

Over the week the children have been observed developing their own play through using a range of resources and skills. In the music area we have seen a group of children creating their own sounds using a range of instruments that displayed their singing  voices. They shared ideas and used trial and error skills to make a range of sounds. While others have been using a range of resources such as the whiteboard and to display their skills using the computer.

On Wednesday the children enjoyed exploring Cloud dough that promoted skills to predict, use the senses to discuss the texture, smell,  and to share and take turns. They used skills to manipulate the mixture linking to what they understand about snow. One child expressed her thoughts by saying.

“Are clouds like this”.

Over the week the children have been enjoying tasting a range of different foods whilst at snack, from grapefruit to dipping pineapple into their pizza sauce. Some children shared their knowledge of where certain foods come from, and what they do like or not so much like too.
