About 400 of these are composite classes.<\/p>\n<p>For composite classes, the maximum class size is 25. This compares favourably to maximum single class<\/p>\n<p>sizes of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>33 children in P4-7<\/li>\n<li>30 children in P2 and P3.<\/li>\n<li>25 children in P1.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our school uses school policy to allocate children to classes fairly and consistently.\u00a0 We normally use age to select a group of children in a composite class.\u00a0 However, head teachers may consider other things that are important for the school.\u00a0 For example, it may be important to have a balance between boys and girls in a class or to make arrangements to help a child with additional support needs.\u00a0 Headteachers will discuss forming composite classes with you if other criteria are being used.<\/p>\n<p>Newport realise the importance of children being part of their year group and therefore we have adopted previous guidance which recommended that children should not be away from their main year group for more than one year.\u00a0 We track the children who have been in straight and composite classes throughout their time at Newport Primary School.<\/p>\n<p>Read Fife Council&#8217;s leaflet here:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fi\/public\/newportps\/uploads\/sites\/12644\/2021\/04\/26125902\/Composite-Classes-Leaflet-jun20.pdf\">Composite Classes Leaflet jun20<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Each year there are around 1,200 classes in Fife primary schools.
