{"id":59,"date":"2021-08-30T13:31:20","date_gmt":"2021-08-30T12:31:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fi\/mountfleurieprimaryschool\/?page_id=59"},"modified":"2026-08-31T14:49:33","modified_gmt":"2026-08-31T13:49:33","slug":"p6-7-and-mrs-goodlad","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fi\/mountfleurieprimaryschool\/class-pages\/p6-7-and-mrs-goodlad\/","title":{"rendered":"P6\/7 and Mrs Goodlad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Block One (August &#8211; December 2026)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hello and welcome to P6\/7 with Mrs Goodlad.<\/p>\n<p><u>Numeracy: <\/u><\/p>\n<p>This Block in Numeracy we are learning:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Place Value and number structure.<\/li>\n<li>Addition and Subtraction \u2013 mental and written strategies.<\/li>\n<li>Multiplication and division \u2013 mental and written strategies.<\/li>\n<li>Money<\/li>\n<li>Shape<\/li>\n<li>Information Handling<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Literacy: <\/u><\/p>\n<p>This block we will be covering:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Revising the Literacy Circles roles \u2013 Word Wizard, The Predictor, The Summariser, The Question Master, The Illustrator, The Clarifier and the Discussion Director. We will then use these roles during group reading.<\/li>\n<li>Comprehension \u2013 answering literal and inferential questions. We will learn how to locate key words in the text and using these to answer questions. We will also learn how to use context clues and key words to answer inferential questions. Comprehension will be from a mixture of our group reading books, class novel and textbook passages.<\/li>\n<li>For listening and talking P7 will be writing and presenting a speech applying for leadership roles in the school. P6 will be writing a job application for our classroom jobs and taking part in a job interview.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In writing we will be focusing on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Information Reporting<\/li>\n<li>Advertisement<\/li>\n<li>Recounts (Newspaper Reporting)<\/li>\n<li>Diary entries<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our class novel this term is the Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne.<\/p>\n<p>We are also very lucky to have a slot in our new and improved school library, where we can continue to read for enjoyment.<\/p>\n<p><u>Topic: <\/u><\/p>\n<p>Our topic this term is called the World in Conflict. We will be learning about World War I, World War II and current world conflict and Scotland\u2019s involvement in all of these.<\/p>\n<p><u>Health and Wellbeing <\/u><\/p>\n<p>This block we will be covering the following topics for Health and Wellbeing:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Emotions \u2013 triggers, how they impact our behaviour, coping strategies and empathy.<\/li>\n<li>Rights and school values<\/li>\n<li>Food hygiene<\/li>\n<li>Dietary requirements and understanding food labels and packaging.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We will cover the following RSHP topics from the RSHP website: <a href=\"https:\/\/rshp.scot\/second-level\/\">https:\/\/rshp.scot\/second-level\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Progression 1:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Emotional Wellbeing and Body Image<\/li>\n<li>Love and Relationships<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>PE<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Our PE day is on a Thursday. Please ensure you send your child to school in their PE kit on this day ( no crop tops, string tops and football strips please).<\/p>\n<p><u>Homework <\/u><\/p>\n<p>Homework will go out every Friday and should be completed by the following Wednesday. The homework will consist of a reading book and a reading record for you to sign each week.
