It\u2019s our final term together and we are excited for all it has in store.\u00a0Here is what we have planned for Block 3:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Topic:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our topic this block is \u201cWorld Sporting Events\u201d. We will be discussing The Commonwealth Games and The Men\u2019s World Cup, researching the different sports and countries and comparing them to Scotland. We will be looking at the different traditions, rules and skills involved and linking them to the Metaskills that we have been looking at as a whole-school.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Numeracy &amp; Maths:<\/li>\n<li>Continue with four operations (+-\/x)<\/li>\n<li>Place Value \u2013 Link between Fractions\/Decimals\/Percentages and real-life situations<\/li>\n<li>Time<\/li>\n<li>Chance and Uncertainty<\/li>\n<li>Word Problems\/Problem Solving<\/li>\n<li>Continued Data Handling<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Literacy:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our class novel this block is \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bing.com\/ck\/a?!&amp;&amp;p=9261f147217746c1645b0ba2cf1fdf432dbc3d5c198f92d5262d9ab345067b67JmltdHM9MTc2OTA0MDAwMA&amp;ptn=3&amp;ver=2&amp;hsh=4&amp;fclid=0ba08f46-abc7-6855-1e3f-9974aa3269f7&amp;u=a1aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuaGVyYWxkc2NvdGxhbmQuY29tL2xpZmVfc3R5bGUvYXJ0c19lbnRzLzE0OTU4NTA2LnJldmlldy1saWdodC1kdW15YXQtcmVubmllLW1jb3dhbi8&amp;ntb=1\">Light\u00a0on\u00a0Dumyat\u2019. \u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>(We did a deep-dive into our Neurodiversity Novel last term so we will begin this one this term instead.)<\/p>\n<p>This\u00a0is\u00a0an\u00a0adventure\u00a0novel\u00a0by\u00a0Rennie\u00a0McOwan\u00a0that\u00a0follows\u00a0Gavin,\u00a0an\u00a0English\u00a0boy\u00a0who\u00a0unexpectedly\u00a0spends\u00a0his\u00a0summer\u00a0holiday\u00a0with\u00a0his\u00a0aunt\u00a0and\u00a0uncle\u00a0in\u00a0the<br \/>\nremote\u00a0Scottish\u00a0hills.\u00a0There,\u00a0he\u00a0meets\u00a0three\u00a0siblings\u00a0who\u00a0are\u00a0skilled\u00a0in\u00a0outdoor\u00a0survival\u00a0and\u00a0engage\u00a0in\u00a0a\u00a0series\u00a0of\u00a0thrilling\u00a0adventures.\u00a0The\u00a0story\u00a0unfolds\u00a0as\u00a0they\u00a0encounter\u00a0a\u00a0criminal\u00a0gang\u00a0intent\u00a0on\u00a0stealing\u00a0his\u00a0uncle&#8217;s\u00a0silver,\u00a0leading\u00a0them\u00a0to\u00a0use\u00a0their\u00a0skills\u00a0and\u00a0imagination\u00a0to\u00a0protect\u00a0their\u00a0home\u00a0and\u00a0foil\u00a0the\u00a0criminals.\u00a0The<br \/>\nnovel\u00a0is\u00a0rich\u00a0in\u00a0Scottish\u00a0culture\u00a0and\u00a0wilderness,\u00a0offering\u00a0lessons\u00a0in\u00a0bushcraft<br \/>\nand\u00a0survival\u00a0while\u00a0maintaining\u00a0a\u00a0thrilling\u00a0narrative\u00a0that\u00a0appeals\u00a0to\u00a0young\u00a0readers.<\/p>\n<p>We will also have group readers which we will take home each week to read. Please ensure these are always in schoolbags as we need them to facilitate reading groups each day, particularly on a Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>We are also very lucky to have a slot in our new and improved school library, where we can continue to read for enjoyment.<\/p>\n<p>In writing we will be focusing on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Information Reporting<\/li>\n<li>Advertisement\/Persuasive Texts<\/li>\n<li>Recounts (Newspaper Reporting)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In listening and talking we are focusing on sharing and hearing key information and using persuasion to influence others, we will also be continuing to practice our persuasive skills through advertising.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>PE: Tuesday: indoor PE (Athletics, Bat and Ball Games)<br \/>\n*Gym kit should be worn on this day\u00a0(no crop tops, string tops, football strips please)\u00a0Please ensure they have secure trainers for safety reasons.<\/p>\n<p><em>Please also ensure that children have applied and have access to suncream and sunhats in the event that we take our learning outside of the classroom.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>RSHP: Love and Relationships (cont)<\/p>\n<p>Sex: How people have sex\/what do they do?<\/p>\n<p>How human life begins \u2013 pregnancy- birth<\/p>\n<p>Being a parent\/carer<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Please see the RSHP website where you can see all the resources that will be used to teach this subject.<a href=\"https:\/\/rshp.scot\/second-level\/#progression1\">Second Level &#8211; RSHP<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Our homework will consist of reading.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The reading homework will be written into the reading record, children are encouraged to be heard reading at home and their reading record should be signed by a parent\/carer before being returned.<br \/>\nThis will be sent out on a <strong>Friday<\/strong> and should be returned by a <strong>Wednesday<\/strong>.\u00a0<u><br \/>\n<\/u><u>The reading book should be returned to their schoolbag after it has been read as it <em>must<\/em> be brought into school every day for our reading groups.<\/u><\/p>\n<p>We do a large reading input on a Wednesday so it is vital that each child has their book with them that day.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>P6 Events: More information to come<\/li>\n<li>Family Friday \u2013 Friday 8<sup>th<\/sup> May 2-2.45<\/li>\n<li>The Big Strum at Rothes.
