The class teacher is Miss Ramsay.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Health and wellbeing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This term in Health &amp; Wellbeing we will be covering:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>My Body<\/li>\n<li>Friends and Friendship<\/li>\n<li>A fair and equal life for boys and girls<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These are part of the Second Level learning outlined by the RSHP. A link to the website can be found here: <a href=\"https:\/\/rshp.scot\/second-level\/\">https:\/\/rshp.scot\/second-level\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We regularly discuss our school values daily \u2013\u00a0<strong>Safe, Ready and Respectful<\/strong>. These values help to form our Recognition Board focus for each week, which is decided on by the children.<\/p>\n<p>We also plan on having our weekly class meetings on a Friday to review our week. We will discuss the things that we have enjoyed and the things that we want to improve on or change.<\/p>\n<p>We link our class meetings to Children&#8217;s Rights.<\/p>\n<p>These are part of the UNCRC: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unicef.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/UNCRC_summary-1_1.pdf\">https:\/\/www.unicef.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/UNCRC_summary-1_1.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Physical Education<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our gym day is a<strong>\u00a0Wednesday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>In P.E this block we will be focusing on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Team games<\/li>\n<li>Fitness<\/li>\n<li>Gymnastics<\/li>\n<li>Dance<\/li>\n<li>Scottish Country Dancing<\/li>\n<li>Safe use of equipment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We aim to do our Daily Mile as much as possible (weather dependent!), and we always have regular movement breaks throughout our day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Literacy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Reading<\/strong>, <strong>Listening &amp; Talking<\/strong>, and <strong>Writing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In Block 1 we will be covering:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Poetry \u2013 features of poems and writing our own.<\/li>\n<li>Comprehension<\/li>\n<li>Grammar and punctuation<\/li>\n<li>Features of language<\/li>\n<li>Spelling \u2013 new spelling patterns, use of spelling strategies<\/li>\n<li>Leaflets and posters<\/li>\n<li>Writing for different purposes \u2013 free writing, writing linked to topic<\/li>\n<li>Debates<\/li>\n<li>Facts and opinions<\/li>\n<li>Group talks<\/li>\n<li>Asking and answering different types of questions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Homework<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Homework is given out every <strong>Friday <\/strong>and should be <strong>completed by the following Wednesday<\/strong>. Children are provided with a reading book and pages\/chapters to read at home. Please ensure that your child brings their homework folder into school <strong>every day<\/strong> as we use these regularly throughout the week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Numeracy and Mathematics<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In numeracy and mathematics this term we will be focusing on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Addition and subtraction \u2013 mental strategies, column addition, partitioning, understanding carrying\/exchange.<\/li>\n<li>Place value \u2013 partitioning numbers, estimation, rounding.<\/li>\n<li>Multiplication and division \u2013 mental maths, use of aids to support calculations.<\/li>\n<li>Shape \u2013 properties of 2D\/3D shapes, nets.<\/li>\n<li>Angle, symmetry and transformation \u2013 angles of a triangle, use of appropriate vocabulary<\/li>\n<li>Money \u2013 calculations, budgeting<\/li>\n<li>Patterns and relationships<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We will be engaging in various <strong>STEM<\/strong> activities linked to our topic. We will also use one of our weekly netbook slots to learn about coding. We will be building models related to<strong> Rivers<\/strong> and presenting these in small groups to the class.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Topics<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One of our topics for this term is <strong>Rivers (Scottish based). <\/strong>Within this topic we will be learning about Scottish rivers, however we will also make links to the wider world. We will also make links to other areas of the curriculum when engaging in topic lessons.<\/p>\n<p>As part of our topic, our <strong>class novel<\/strong> is &#8216;Journey to the River Sea&#8217; by Eva Ibbotson. We will learn about Maia&#8217;s journey to the Brazilian Jungle. The children have shown a keen interest in our book so far!<\/p>\n<p>We will also be covering the topics <strong>Planet Earth <\/strong>and <strong>Energy<\/strong> in Block 1.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sharing Assembly<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The P5 Sharing Assembly will be on<strong> Friday the 20<sup>th<\/sup> of November.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Block One (August &#8211; December 2026) Hello, and welcome to the class page for Primary 5!
