Learning Overview for Primary 4b
\nLiteracy
\nWRITING:
\nPrimary 4 will focus on the tools for writing in T1&2.
\nWe are learning to correctly punctuate our
\nsentences. All of us will use capital letters, finger
\nspaces and full stops. Most of us will use
\nexclamation and question marks. Some of us will use
\ncommas and speech marks. We will be developing
\nour skills in writing information texts. Everyone will
\nlearn how to take notes and most learners will use
\nparagraphs, headings and subheadings to organise
\ntheir writing.
\nSPELLING & PHONICS:
\nWe are learning how to correctly spell common
\nwords. We are continuing to learn the rules for
\nmagic \u2018e\u2019 and applying a new sound pattern or
\nspelling rule each week. All children will focus on a
\ndifferent spelling pattern or rule, building their
\nknowledge and confidence as they progress.
\nREADING:
\nWe will use our class novel as the basis for
\ndeveloping our reading skills. We will share and
\ndiscuss our opinions about the story, make
\npredictions about what might happen next and use
\ncontext clues to help us understand what we are
\nreading. We will also explore and learn new
\nvocabulary to help us develop our understanding of
\nthe text and become confident, enthusiastic readers.
\nLISTENING & TALKING:
\nOur focus over T1&2 will be listening for
\ninformation. We will listen carefully to others and
\ndifferent types of texts, find important information,
\nask questions and use what we learn to share ideas,
\ncomplete fact files and build our understanding.
\nNumeracy and Mathematics
\nNUMERACY:
\nOur main focus during term one will be place value (the
\nvalue of each digit represented into hundreds, tens and
\nones). Some of us will count to 10, 000 and beyond.
\nMost of us will keep practising our understanding of
\nnumbers to 1000. All of us will secure our skip counting
\nin 2\u2019s, 5\u2019s and 10\u2019s. Once we have mastered our place
\nvalue skills we will learn different strategies for
\naddition and subtraction. Everyone will learn about
\nestimation and rounding.
\nMATHEMATICS:
\nDuring T1 we will be learning about the properties of
\n2D and 3D shapes. Everyone will learn how to identify
\na range of 2D and 3D shapes, most of us will identify 2D
\nproperties by sides and corners, some of us will identify
\n3d shapes by faces, edges and vertices. All of us will
\ndescribe 3D properties to help us recognise and
\ncompare shapes in the world around us.
\nFollowing this we will learn about symmetry, patterns
\nand co-ordinates.

Health and Wellbeing
\nP.E: Our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. We
\nhave indoor PE with Mrs Reekie every Thursday. The
\nfocus in T1 will be ball skills and in T2 will be fitness.
\nMiss Close will do outdoor PE every second Tuesday
\nand focus on different team games.
\nHealth: We will be learning about being a Rights
\nRespecting school and how every child has the right
\nto be heard, be safe and to learn. We will focus on
\ncollaborative learning and team-building skills. In
\naddition, we will learn about the names of different
\nemotions and ways to manage them.
\nOutdoor Learning:We will enjoy maths, health and
\nwellbeing and mindfulness activities in the quad.
\nOur Topic will be about\u2026..
\nOUR FIRST PROJECT IS: We will explore the amazing
\nhuman body and learn about its different systems,
\nincluding the skeleton, organs, digestion and
\ncirculation. We will investigate how our bodies work,
\nhow to stay healthy and use scientific skills to ask
\nquestions, carry out investigations and share our
\nlearning through literacy and numeracy tasks.
\nOUR SECOND PROJECT IS:We will learn how
\nChristmas is celebrated in different countries, explore
\ntraditions, food and customs, compare similarities and
\ndifferences, and share our learning through
