{"id":35,"date":"2021-02-05T14:26:45","date_gmt":"2021-02-05T14:26:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fi\/fifeps\/?page_id=28"},"modified":"2021-05-06T18:43:27","modified_gmt":"2021-05-06T17:43:27","slug":"initiatives","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fi\/mcleanprimaryschool\/our-school\/initiatives\/","title":{"rendered":"Initiatives"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Eco Schools<\/h2>\n<p>The school is involved with the Eco School project.<\/p>\n<p>More information can be found here<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eco-schools.org.uk\/\">http:\/\/www.eco-schools.org.uk\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Each class has an area of \u2018ECO responsibility\u2019 for the school year:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Nursery<\/strong>: Woodland Explorers<strong>\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>take photos of adventures<\/li>\n<li><strong>P1:\u00a0<\/strong>Bird Feeders &#8211; repair\/replace\/reposition\/refill<\/li>\n<li><strong>P2a:\u00a0<\/strong>Bug \/ Bird Detectives \u2013 record who visits our school grounds<\/li>\n<li><strong>P2b:\u00a0<\/strong>Worm Farmers \u2013 feed and look after<\/li>\n<li><strong>P3a:\u00a0<\/strong>Design and grow a herb garden to attract more wildlife to our quad.<\/li>\n<li><strong>P3b:\u00a0<\/strong>Water monitors \u2013 check, monitor and record dripping taps.<\/li>\n<li><strong>P4a:\u00a0<\/strong>Lunch waste &#8211; spread the word about reducing food waste, make and display posters on eco board.<\/li>\n<li><strong>P4b:\u00a0<\/strong>Keepers of \u2018Carbon\u2019 \u2013 Checking for electricals left on, monitoring lights, keep a record.<\/li>\n<li><strong>P5a:\u00a0<\/strong>Maintaining the bug hotel \u2013 repair, refill and monitor.<\/li>\n<li><strong>P5b:\u00a0<\/strong>Litter Pickers and monitors &#8211; audit of playground, record using charts, litter pick and monitor litter.<\/li>\n<li><strong>P6a:\u00a0<\/strong>Greenhouse &#8211; tidy, plant, harvest<\/li>\n<li><strong>P6b:\u00a0<\/strong>Textile Recycling \u2013 Help Miss Stevenson &amp; Miss McKeever with the collections &amp; keep everyone informed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>P7a:\u00a0<\/strong>Guardians of the Quad &#8211; keep tidy, share information leaflets, organise rotas and visits.<\/li>\n<li><strong>P7b:\u00a0<\/strong>Make ECO links with QAHS<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Health Promoting School<\/h2>\n<p>As part of the national priority related to improving the diet and fitness of people in Scotland, our school encourages children to choose healthy options at lunch and break times. We also promote physical activity through our P.E. programme and Daily McLean Mile initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Fife Education has created its own\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.healthpromotingschoolsfife.co.uk\/\">Health Promoting Schools<\/a>\u00a0website to support schools in their endeavours.<\/p>\n<p>These websites also offer information about children&#8217;s health.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.healthpromotingschools.co.uk\/index.asp\">http:\/\/www.healthpromotingschools.co.uk<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.healthpromotingschools.co.uk\/\">\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gov.scot\/Topics\/Education\/Schools\/HLivi\">http:\/\/www.gov.scot\/Topics\/Education\/Schools\/HLivi<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Rights Respecting Schools<\/h2>\n<p>The RRSA is a UNICEF scheme based on the U N Convention of Rights for the Child, which lies at the heart of humanity and at the core of the ethos of schools and communities. It is not only about teaching children about their rights but about reinforcing the universal principles of behaviour and values within their society.<\/p>\n<p>More information is found on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unicef.org.uk\/rights-respecting-schools\/\">Unicef website<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>W.O.W.<\/h2>\n<p>WOW (Walk once a Week) Travel Tracker allows pupils to track how they get to school, and is a year round walk to school challenge.
