Literacy<\/strong><\/p>\n

WRITING:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The writing focus this term is to make appropriate choices about layout and presentation, both in jotters and in digital texts where we aim to engage the reader using headings, bullet points, different fonts and graphics.<\/p>\n

We will also work on reviewing and correcting writing to ensure it makes sense, is technically accurate and meets its purpose.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

SPELLING:<\/strong><\/p>\n

We are working on using independent strategies to support our spelling and editing when writing. These include the use of a dictionary, thesaurus, spell checker or reference book.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

READING:<\/strong><\/p>\n

We are developing decision making skills by reading information from various sources. We should be able to explain our preferences for a particular type of text, author or source.<\/p>\n

We are developing our awareness of the techniques writers use to influence us.<\/p>\n

We will use Mr Men books and a class novel to develop the above skills.<\/p>\n

LISTENING & TALKING<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

We will use our presentation skills to deliver a talk of appropriate detail and length.<\/p>\n

We are working on talking clearly, audibly, at an appropriate pace and occasionally varying the tone.<\/p>\n

Numeracy and Mathematics<\/strong><\/p>\n

NUMERACY:<\/strong><\/p>\n

We will continue to work on money and finance, using our numeracy strategies and knowledge of decimals and percentages. There will be a focus on budgeting, introducing the concept of profit and loss.<\/p>\n

MATHEMATICS:<\/strong><\/p>\n

We will focus on information handling, using graphs, charts and tables to analyse data. We will link technology to this, using spreadsheets to gather data of our own.<\/p>\n

We will also cover measurement, using real-life scenarios to solve problems involving length, weight and volume and applying our knowledge of decimals to convert between different units of measure.<\/p>\n

We will work on movement and balance through gymnastics skills and the creation of a sequence of movements. We will also apply these skills to an athletics block incorporating running, jumping and throwing.<\/p>\n

We will be using the RSHP resources to focus on changes within the body, friendship, equality, consent and looking after ourselves.<\/p>\n
