Learning Overview for Primary 7b<\/p>\n

Literacy<\/strong><\/p>\n

WRITING:<\/strong><\/p>\n

We will be developing our ability to create texts for a variety of purposes. This will include factual\/informative writing around our War and Conflict topic. We will also be using our persuasive writing skills to ask local businesses for donations for our business enterprise.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We are aiming to review written pieces to correct any errors and ensure our writing makes sense all the way through, is technically accurate and meets its purpose.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We will build on existing skills in note taking, organising and using these in a variety of layouts and for specific purposes.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

SPELLING:<\/strong><\/p>\n

A focus will be on ensuring we are using taught spelling rules consistently to enable us to spell most words correctly.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We will also be learning specialist vocabulary linked to other areas of the curriculum. E.g topic, finance, probability and chance.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

READING:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Responding to a range of literal, inferential and evaluative questions will give us the opportunity to show our understanding or a range of texts read including our group\/class reading books.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

LISTENING & TALKING<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

Our main focus this term is on selecting suitable vocabulary for our audience to create a presentation for our Enterprise Business idea for a Dragons\u2019 Den style meeting.<\/p>\n

Numeracy and Mathematics<\/strong><\/p>\n

NUMERACY:<\/strong><\/p>\n

We will be focusing on place value including ordering and rounding to develop our understanding of number, applying this to increasingly larger numbers.<\/p>\n

We will also be working on solving adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing problems using both written and mental strategies.<\/p>\n

We will continue to focus on our times\/dividing tables and work on developing our problem-solving skills to solve various types of word problems.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

MATHEMATICS:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our enterprise theme will enable us to develop our understanding of money and finance at a deeper level and give us a practical opportunity to use the vocabulary of finance.<\/p>\n

We will be using this opportunity to link our financial education to real life.<\/p>\n

P.E<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our PE days are every Wednesday morning with muga slots on a Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n

We will be focusing on all 3 aspects of health and wellbeing: physical, emotional and mental.<\/p>\n

We will use a range of emotion works, the Treehouse app and activities to develop our understanding of how to promote healthy living through the choices we make.<\/p>\n

Looking at various conflicts throughout history, past & present including:<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 creating a timeline of historic battles which had a direct impact on Scotland and the UK.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 write a diary entry from the perspective of someone who has been caught in a conflict.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 suggest some vocabulary that is linked to our topic using a dictionary to find the meaning of tricky or unfamiliar words.<\/p>\n

Oct-Dec: Dragon\u2019s Den\/Enterprise<\/strong><\/p>\n

We will learn about how to create a business plan to present to others on an idea we have for a business.<\/p>\n

This will involve costing materials, producing these and calculating the prices of our product for selling.<\/p>\n

Our plan is to put together a small-scale Christmas Fayre for the P7 parents and McLean pupils to attend.<\/p>\n

After the fayre we will use our finance skills to determine whether our venture(s) were profitable ones.<\/p>\n
