Learning Overview for Primary 7a<\/p>\n

Literacy
\nWRITING:
\nWe will be developing our ability to create texts
\nfor a variety of purposes. This will include
\nfactual\/informative writing around our War and
\nConflict topic. We will also be using our
\npersuasive writing skills to ask local businesses
\nfor donations for our business enterprise.
\nWe are aiming to review written pieces to
\ncorrect any errors and ensure our writing makes
\nsense all the way through, is technically accurate
\nand meets its purpose.
\nWe will build on existing skills in note taking,
\norganising and using these in a variety of layouts
\nand for specific purposes.<\/p>\n

SPELLING:
\nA focus will be on ensuring we are using taught
\nspelling rules consistently to enable us to spell
\nmost words correctly.
\nWe will also be learning specialist vocabulary
\nlinked to other areas of the curriculum. E.g topic,
\nfinance, probability and chance.<\/p>\n

READING:
\nResponding to a range of literal, inferential and
\nevaluative questions will give us the opportunity
\nto show our understanding or a range of texts
\nread including our group\/class reading books.<\/p>\n

LISTENING & TALKING:
\nOur main focus this term is on selecting suitable
\nvocabulary for our audience to create a
\npresentation for our Enterprise Business idea for
\na Dragons\u2019 Den style meeting.
\nNumeracy and Mathematics<\/p>\n

NUMERACY:
\nWe will be focusing on place value including ordering
\nand rounding to develop our understanding of number,
\napplying this to increasingly larger numbers.
\nWe will also be working on solving adding, subtracting,
\nmultiplying and dividing problems using both written
\nand mental strategies.
\nWe will continue to focus on our times\/dividing tables
\nand work on developing our problem-solving skills to
\nsolve various types of word problems.<\/p>\n

MATHEMATICS:
\nOur enterprise theme will enable us to develop our
\nunderstanding of money and finance at a deeper level
\nand give us a practical opportunity to use the vocabulary
\nof finance.
\nWe will be using this opportunity to link our financial
\neducation to real life.
\nHealth and Wellbeing
\nP.E
\nOur PE days are every Wednesday morning with
\nmuga slots on a Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Health:
\nWe will be focusing on all 3 aspects of health and
\nwellbeing: physical, emotional and mental.
\nWe will use a range of emotion works, the
\nTreehouse app and activities to develop our
\nunderstanding of how to promote healthy living
\nthrough the choices we make.
\nOur Topic(s) will be about\u2026
\nAug-Oct: War & Conflict
\nLooking at various conflicts throughout history, past &
\npresent including:
\n\u2022creating a timeline of historic battles which had
\na direct impact on Scotland and the UK.
\n\u2022write a diary entry from the perspective of
\nsomeone who has been caught in a conflict.
\n\u2022suggest some vocabulary that is linked to our
\ntopic using a dictionary to find the meaning of
\ntricky or unfamiliar words.<\/p>\n

Oct-Dec: Dragon\u2019s Den\/Enterprise
\nWe will learn about how to create a business plan to
\npresent to others on an idea we have for a business.
\nThis will involve costing materials, producing these and
\ncalculating the prices of our product for selling.
\nOur plan is to put together a small-scale Christmas
\nFayre for the P7 parents and McLean pupils to attend.
\nAfter the fayre we will use our finance skills to
\ndetermine whether our venture(s) were profitable
\nones.
