Teacher – Mrs Smart<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

Children in P1 and P1\/2 are working across three play-based classroom settings and embracing the opportunities to learn through play each day. Mrs Smart and Miss McKeever are working with the children during their play and all adults are involved in observing the children’s play and planning next steps. All children will also work with Mrs Smart and Miss McKeever at the \u201cTeaching Table\u201d for focussed, targeted learning suited to their individual learning needs.<\/p>\n

Literacy<\/strong><\/p>\n

WRITING:<\/strong><\/p>\n

P1 \u2013 Children will be using their initial sounds to build cvc and cvcc words. Children ill be writing in sentences using a success checklist. Children will be writing creatively and personal pieces.<\/p>\n

P2 \u2013 Children will be working on weekly handwriting lessons. They will be learning about the different types of words in writing and using a range of nouns, verbs and adjectives with confidence.<\/p>\n

SPELLING & PHONICS<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

Jolly Phonics<\/u><\/p>\n

P1 \u2013 Children will be learning to recognise and form all initial sounds and diagraphs following the Jolly Phonics programme. They will begin to explore spelling common words correctly.<\/p>\n

P2 \u2013 Children will be focusing on spelling common words correctly when writing independently following the \u201cFry\u2019s 100 high frequency words framework.\u201d<\/p>\n

READING:<\/strong><\/p>\n

In primary 1 the children will begin work on sight words using the \u201cStoryworld Wordwalls\u201d and \u201csounds walls\u201d. Wednesday and com back to school on a Monday. \u00a0Children will be working on improving their fluency and comprehension skills such as predication and questioning.<\/p>\n

In primary 2, children will work on their sight word recognition and reading strategies to help with independent reading focusing on their tone and expression. Children will be reading more topic based texts and instructions to help with spelling and comprehension.<\/p>\n

Tricky words<\/u><\/p>\n

All children will be introduced to word walls for the \u201cStory World\u201d reading scheme. They will also be working through \u201cFrys 100 High Frequency words\u201d. Fry Sight Words – 1-100 (educationoutside.org)<\/a><\/p>\n

LISTENING & TALKING<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

In primary 1, we will be focusing on recognising and generating rhyme. We will also be exploring poetry and listening to the rhythm from poems and music, linking these to our emotions.<\/p>\n

In primary 2 children will be exploring the meaning of different types of words and using these to enhance their expression.<\/p>\n

All children will have the opportunity to learn some topic vocabulary and will be encouraged to use this within their play.<\/td>\n

Numeracy and Mathematics<\/strong><\/p>\n

NUMERACY:<\/strong><\/p>\n

P1 \u2013 We will be focusing on further embedding all of our understanding of number. Using our number sense to explore larger numbers and recognise the patterns formed in numbers when ski counting.<\/p>\n

P2 \u2013 Will be cementing their understanding of numbers, exploring multiplication and division. They will continue to use a range of mathematical language to describe the position and value of numbers and relate this to the maths topics we are covering.<\/p>\n

MATHEMATICS:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Money<\/u><\/p>\n

We will be learning the value of money and using coins to make total amounts. Children will have the opportunity to think about the jobs that require skills with money sense. Children will use money during play for role play and problem solving.<\/p>\n

Symmetry, shape and pattern<\/u><\/p>\n

Children will be learning about symmetry in their environment. They will learn to recognise and draw lines of symmetry.<\/p>\n

P2 children will be making symmetrical pictures and completing patterns to make them symmetrical.<\/p>\n

We will be exploring patters in shapes and numbers and working on recognising 2D and 3D shapes.<\/p>\n

Time<\/u><\/p>\n

We will be exploring the change in time over the year. Using analogue and digital clocks we will be exploring o\u2019clock and half past times. We will be using time as a form of measure within our play and exploring the times associated with our individual routines.<\/p>\n

Measure<\/u><\/p>\n

We will revisit Measure building on our previous inputs and using our broader range of mathematical language.<\/p>\n
