Mrs Smart and Miss McKeever are working with the children during their play and all adults are involved in observing the children&#8217;s play and planning next steps. They will be using these to write lists, labels and are beginning to think about basic sentence structure and story sequencing. They will also have weekly handwriting sessions to help with formation of letters and spellings of common words linked to word walls 1 and 2.<\/p>\n<p>P2 \u2013 Children will be working on weekly handwriting lessons. They will be learning to write for different purposes and how to lay these out correctly. The children will be working on using a range of different punctuation to enhance their writing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SPELLING &amp; PHONICS<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><u>Jolly Phonics<\/u><\/p>\n<p>P1 \u2013 Children will be learning to recognise and form all initial sounds and diagraphs following the Jolly Phonics programme. They will begin to explore spelling common words correctly.<\/p>\n<p>P2 \u2013 Children will be focusing on spelling common words correctly when writing independently following the \u201cFry\u2019s 100 high frequency words framework.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=R8Vzh8Y2CME&amp;t=32s\">Jolly Phonics &#8211; Letter Sound Songs for Kids | Jolly Phonics Songs | 42 Letter Sounds Learn with Song (youtube.com)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sightwords.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/fry_1st_100_Updated-2.pdf\">fry_1st_100_Updated-2.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>READING:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In primary 1 the children will begin work on sight words using the \u201cStoryworld Wordwalls\u201d and \u201csounds walls\u201d. These will go home on a Friday when children are ready and come back to school on a Wednesday. As appropriate, children will get reading books.<\/p>\n<p>In primary 2, children will work on their sight word recognition and reading strategies to help with independent reading focusing on their tone and expression. Children will also be reading to find out information, learning about facts and opinions.<\/p>\n<p><u>Tricky words<\/u><\/p>\n<p>All children will be introduced to word walls for the \u201cStory World\u201d reading scheme. They will also be working through \u201cFrys 100 High Frequency words\u201d. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.educationoutside.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Fry-Sight-Words-1-100.pdf\">Fry Sight Words &#8211; 1-100 (educationoutside.org)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>LISTENING &amp; TALKING<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>In primary 1, the focus for this tern is sequencing instructions and stories. They will be working on sharing ideas and learning to a larger audience.<\/p>\n<p>In primary 2 the children will finding ways to relay information they have learned to larger audience and speaking confidently.<\/p>\n<p>All children will have the opportunity to learn some Scots language and poems to recite in front of an audience.<\/td>\n<td width=\"287\"><strong>Numeracy and Mathematics<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>NUMERACY:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>P1 \u2013 We will focus n numbers 11-20 and begin thinking about number facts to make numbers. Children will be learning addition and subtraction using the correct symbols.<\/p>\n<p>P2 \u2013 We will be building on our number sense and addition and subtraction understanding to help build a bank of strategies for mental and written sums.<\/p>\n<p>All children will begin to think about fractions and how numbers and shapes can be shared equally.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.communication4all.co.uk\/Numeracy\/Number%20Formation%20Rhyme%20Cards.pdf\">Number Formation Rhyme Cards (communication4all.co.uk)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>MATHEMATICS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><u>Money<\/u><\/p>\n<p>We will be learning the value of money and using coins to make total amounts. Children will have the opportunity to think about the jobs that require skills with money sense. Children will use money during play for role play and problem solving.<\/p>\n<p><u>Symmetry<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Children will be learning about symmetry in their environment. They will learn to recognise and draw lines of symmetry.<\/p>\n<p>P2 children will be making symmetrical pictures and completing patterns to make them symmetrical.<\/p>\n<p><u>Direction and map work <\/u><\/p>\n<p>Children will learn about direction and prepotential language. They will begin to think about giving directions to peers and using technology to enhance their understanding.<\/p>\n<p>All children will look at map of their local areas.<\/p>\n<p>P2 children will be drawing maps of their houses and areas and talking about the journeys they take regularly.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We will use a variety of technology to help us explore these topics. Learning games can help children to reinforce learning during play.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.topmarks.co.uk\/symmetry\/symmetry-matching\">Symmetry Matching &#8211; Reflective Symmetry Game<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mathsisfun.com\/games\/direction-nsew-.html\">Play Follow the Direction (NSEW)<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"435\"><strong>\u00a0Health and Wellbeing <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>P.E<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The children will learn about different aspects of health, including physical and emotional health both inside and in the outdoors.<\/p>\n<p>We will have class gym every Wednesday and will focus on the following:<\/p>\n<p>Focus 1 \u2013 Bat and ball skills<\/p>\n<p>Focus 2 \u2013 Tennis and badminton<\/p>\n<p><strong>Health:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We will be exploring how to stay safe in an emergency and people who can help us in the community. We will also be learning about the different skills needed to look after ourselves, out family and our friends and the jobs we want to do when we are older. Children will have the opportunity for small group Kitbag sessions to help understand and explore emotional literacy<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.emotionworks.org.uk\/\">Emotion Works<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iffkitbag.com\/\">Iff Kitbag &#8211; Welcome<\/a><\/td>\n<td width=\"287\"><strong>Our Topic will be about\u2026..<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Topic 1: Transport<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Children will learn about different transport we can use. They will be planning trips and thinking about budgeting. Children will be thinking about their environmental responsibility in line with our Green Flag journey.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Topic 2: People who help us<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We will be learning about staying safe in an emergency. We will also be looking at different jobs people do in our lives and in our school.<\/p>\n<p>If anyone has an interesting job that they would like to come in and talk to use about.
