What is a PLJ?<\/span><\/p>\n

Each child in nursery has their own PLJ folder, PLJ stands for Personal Learning Journey and is an important record of your child\u2019s learning throughout their time with us. It is a shared document which contains information from both home and nursery.<\/span><\/p>\n

The PLJ has four main curricular sections: Literacy and English, Numeracy and Mathematics, Health and Wellbeing and Sharing My Learning; which covers all other curricular areas.<\/span><\/p>\n

How do staff track my child’s learning?<\/span><\/p>\n

Nursery staff take regular observations and photographs of your child to build up a picture of their interests, ideas, skills and abilities. These are then collated into the PLJ and tracked as evidence of progress through the Early Level of the Curriculum for Excellence and Skills for Life and Learning. This helps us to understand where your child is on their journey, allows us to set realistic, achievable targets and to offer support or challenge where needed; to give your child the best possible start in learning.<\/span><\/p>\n

Where can I find my child’s PLJ?<\/span><\/p>\n

Your child\u2019s PLJ is stored in a central location in all rooms, and is easily accessible.<\/span><\/p>\n

Little Owls PLJs: in the story corner.<\/span><\/p>\n

Squirrels PLJs: underneath where you sign your child in and out.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hedgehogs PLJs: in the writing area.<\/span><\/p>\n

Children are encouraged to reflect on their learning with their peers or staff and are able to pick up and look at their PLJ at any time.<\/span><\/p>\n

Can parents\/carers look at their child’s PLJ?<\/span><\/p>\n

PLJs are shared during progress chats and are given to parents\/carers to take home and share with their child and other families members and complete relevant PLJ sheets.<\/span><\/p>\n

Parents are also welcome to borrow their child\u2019s PLJ and can take it home to share at any time. However, we would prefer that you did this over a weekend and returned it on the following Monday, to allow staff to update their PLJs. We hope that you and your child enjoy the experience!<\/span><\/p>\n
