Lochgelly West Parent Council.

Lochgelly West Parent Council is a group of parents whose role is to represent the views of the wider parent forum. The Parent Council has an important role to play in school improvement by ensuring that the parental perspective is represented and taken into account. We work closely with the School Leadership Team and Pupil Council, to ensure we incorporate the views of our children as we strive for continuous improvement within our school.

The Scottish Schools Parental Involvement Act 2006 gives each school’s Parent Forum the right to set up a Parent Council.

The aims of the Parent Council are:

  • To work in partnership with the school and to decide on the key priorities to take forward.
  • Provide a voice for the wider parent forum and within the local authority on issues that are important to them.
  • Work collaboratively with the school on ways to engage parents in their children’s learning and in the life of the school.
  • Support the school to develop strong home/school partnerships.
  • Ensure effective and regular communication with the wider parent forum to both hear their views and keep them informed.
  • Support improvement by discussing the school’s strengths and areas of further development from a parental perspective.
  • Develop and maintain links with the wider community.
  • Utilise the unique and varied skills, interests, knowledge and experience that parents can offer.

The parent council meet termly. At present we are holding virtual meetings due to Covid-19 school closures and anyone can join us for these meetings by noting your interest with the school.

The Parent Council meet termly. The dates for the rest of the school year are as follows:

Term 1 – Wednesday 31st August 2022 6-7pm

Term 2 –  Wednesday 9th November 2022 6-7pm

Term 3 – Wednesday 22nd February 2023 6-7pm

Term 4 – TBC

You can contribute to the Council in a number of ways, you do not need to be an elected member to attend the meetings.

You can raise questions, volunteer for events or offer advice and opinions. We are keen to recruit parents from each year group within the school and nursery, as it is important to establish a wide and diverse variety of input from as many parents as possible.

If you are unable to attend the meetings, but have any questions or comments, please contact the Parent Council by emailing the school on lochgellywestps.enquiries@fife.gov.uk.
