Wider Achievements

Pupil Leadership

This session we have introduced P7 leaderships clubs .

Over the past few months there has been great enthusiasm, learning, fun and teamwork going on across our school over lunch times, which our P7’s worked hard to plan, organise and deliver. We are very proud of their efforts and the positive experience they have provided for all children in our school.

Bikeability

We have loved being able to introduce the Bikeability programme in our school this year for upper school pupils. Our Primary 6 and 7 pupils have enjoyed becoming safer and more confident cyclists through the skills, learning and lessons this programme delivers.

Children’s Right

Over the past year we have been working towards achieving our Rights Respecting Schools Award. Becoming a Rights Respecting School is about embedding a child rights approach into all aspects of school life. It helps children to become healthier and happier, to feel safe, to develop better relationships and to play an active role in the wider world.
There are 3 stages to this award:
  • Bronze: Rights Committed
  • Silver: Rights Aware
  • Gold: Rights Respecting
To achieve bronze, schools need to become familiar with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. Our work across the school on having an ‘Article of the Fortnight’ has helped us to learn and understand more about our rights and how these affect us and other children across the world.
We also had to create a pupil-led steering group. This is a group made up of a teacher, a parent and a group of children from across our school to take our learning forward in relation to the UNCRC. Our new leadership group are looking forward to regular meetings to plan our next steps.
Finally, we needed to plan the actions that our school will take to achieve the silver award by creating an action plan. This plan identifies actions that we will develop during the next academic year.
We are now ready to contact our regional professional advisor to submit our bronze documents and hopefully achieve our Bronze award.
