The term \u2018neurodiversity\u2019 describes this wide variation in brain processes, and therefore in individuals\u2019 experiences and behaviours.<\/p>\n<div class=\"anchor-h4\">\n<h4 id=\"neurodivergence\">Neurodivergence<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<p>Sometimes these variations are substantial enough to give rise to more categorical differences and sometimes these correspond to diagnostic labels such as autism and ADHD. \u2018Neurodivergence\u2019 is used to describe those whose brains, thought processes and\/or cognitive abilities differ from \u2018neurotypical\u2019 brains and abilities. Neurodivergence is natural and neurodiversity should be welcomed and appreciated as part of human diversity.<\/p>\n<div class=\"anchor-h4\">\n<h4 id=\"neurodevelopmental-difficulties\">Neurodevelopmental difficulties<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<p>A diagnosis of a \u2018neurodevelopmental disorder\u2019 is a term reserved for those who present with significant difficulties in their day-to-day life due to their neurodivergence. Children and young people may experience difficulties across different areas including their learning, motor skills, communication, behaviour and\/or social development.<\/p>\n<p>Neurodevelopmental diagnoses most commonly include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"customListStyle\">\n<li>Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)<\/li>\n<li>Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)<\/li>\n<li>Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)<\/li>\n<li>Intellectual or Learning Disability<\/li>\n<li>Developmental Language Disorder<\/li>\n<li>Developmental Co-ordination Disorder (DCD\/Dyspraxia).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Specific learning difficulties such as Dyslexia and Dyscalculia are also now considered to be neurodevelopmental difficulties.<\/p>\n<p>Many neurodevelopmental difficulties overlap and interact. These conditions are often identified and diagnosed during childhood or adolescence.
