I hope you and your family are doing well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The week that\u2019s been\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been another busy one here at KHS with lots happening across the school.<\/p>\n<p>Our young people continue to work hard in their subjects and around the school, taking advantage of the many extra-curricular activities, and opportunities available through subjects \/ school.<\/p>\n<p>This week, we had a musical masterclass taking place on Tuesday afternoon. In the words of Mrs Duckett: <em>\u2018On Tuesday, 30 pupils participated in a chamber music\/composition masterclass with world-renowned classical musicians: Ben Goldschieder, Ben Baker and Huw Watkins MBE. We were so thrilled to host them, hear them play Mozart, Brahms and Huw Watkins &#8211; and listen to their analysis of the music and instrumental techniques!\u2019<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Continuing in the creativity sphere on Tuesday, we had 2 showings of \u201cAs You Like It\u201d, performed by our amazing Fife Shakespeare festival team. As ever, you can catch up on more news and recent activities at KHS through our <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fi\/kirkcaldyhighschool\/category\/latest-news\/\">online blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, we held our Parent \/ Carer evening for young people in S5\/6, with lots of learning discussions taking place, and a few pointers to support our learners moving forward.<\/p>\n<p>We also held 2 more roadshows at Torbain and Capsard Primary schools on Wednesday with many questions asked and answered about life at KHS. We continue to be grateful for the large numbers of families who come along to these events.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, a group of S1 young people were involved in a session with Safer Communities, learning about their role within our community and developing social and emotional skills to support better decision-making and judgement.<\/p>\n<p>I can also share some staffing news with you\u2026today, Mrs Hume was successful at interview for the post of permanent Depute Head Teacher here at KHS. As you will know, Mrs Hume has been acting DHT since last October, supporting young people in S5 and also those young people who are most dis-engaged in S4 to achieve qualifications. We wish Mrs Hume all the best in her permanent role.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, Ms Black, PT Supported Learning shares the following update on our learners in Supported Learning:<\/p>\n<p><em>In Supported Learning it has been a busy week and great to see our young folk keen to share their learning.\u202f Learners are very much involved in leading their learning and the increased engagement and pride is evident: we have had Scottish History and Healthy Eating projects being shared, writers up levelling their work with wow adjectives, some incredible problem solving from our curious and creative S1s and a delicious Lemon Drizzle cake made in Home Economics which was kindly shared.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Our whole department Get Together had a focus on Bullying this week; a mature and respectful discussion followed and a consensus that we will not be Bystanders.\u202f\u202fThe language across the department has had a real focus on Kindness, Honestly and Success and I&#8217;ve been really impressed by how these values are being further embedded and young people are noticing and sharing examples between themselves and with the staff team.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>The week ahead\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Next week, young people in S2, S4 and S5 will have an assembly focussed on the upcoming course choice days.<\/p>\n<p>Families of young people in S1 \u2013 3 will also be able to access their child\u2019s latest tracking report next Friday.<\/p>\n<p>A reminder that School will close to young people on <strong>Tuesday 13th February at 3.15pm<\/strong> for the February break and re-open at the usual time on <strong>Monday, 19th February<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Best wishes,<\/p>\n<p>Chris McKay<\/p>\n<p>Rector<\/p>\n<p>02 February 2024<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to this weeks Rector\u2019s log.
