{"id":18881,"date":"2026-02-26T16:35:00","date_gmt":"2026-02-26T16:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fi\/kirkcaldyhighschool\/?p=18881"},"modified":"2026-03-02T09:44:17","modified_gmt":"2026-03-02T09:44:17","slug":"celebrating-foundation-apprenticeships-at-kirkcaldy-high-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fi\/kirkcaldyhighschool\/2026\/02\/26\/celebrating-foundation-apprenticeships-at-kirkcaldy-high-school\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating Foundation Apprenticeships at Kirkcaldy High School"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apprenticeships.scot\/events\/scottish-apprenticeship-week\">Scottish Apprenticeship Week<\/a>, we are celebrating the achievements of two of our senior pupils who are gaining valuable skills, qualifications, and real-world experience through their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apprenticeships.scot\/become-an-apprentice\/foundation-apprenticeships\/\">Foundation Apprenticeships<\/a> in Social Services.<\/p>\n<p>Foundation Apprenticeships allow pupils to combine classroom learning with hands-on work placements, helping them develop confidence, employability skills, and a clear understanding of future career pathways.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alix \u2013 Social Services &amp; Healthcare<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Alix is an S6 pupil who is currently studying her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apprenticeships.scot\/foundation-apprenticeships\/social-services-and-healthcare\/employer\/\">Foundation Apprenticeship in Social Services &amp; Healthcare<\/a>. Impressively, she also fully achieved a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apprenticeships.scot\/foundation-apprenticeships\/social-services-children-and-young-people\/individual\/\">Foundation Apprenticeship in Social Services and Childcare<\/a> last year, showing real commitment to her chosen career pathway.<\/p>\n<p>Alix attends her apprenticeship every Tuesday and Thursday, where she is studying modules including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Social Services in Scotland<\/li>\n<li>Human Development &amp; Social Influences<\/li>\n<li>Communication<\/li>\n<li>Safe Practice and Wellbeing<\/li>\n<li>Safeguarding<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Alongside her studies, Alix completes her work placement at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abbotsford-care.co.uk\/\">Abbotsford Care Home<\/a>, gaining first-hand experience of working in a professional care setting.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI am really enjoying my Foundation Apprenticeship and seeing how different the frameworks are, as this is helping me with my chosen career path.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><br style=\"clear:both\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Millie \u2013 Social Services (Children and Young People)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Millie is an S5 pupil who is currently studying her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apprenticeships.scot\/foundation-apprenticeships\/social-services-children-and-young-people\/individual\/\">Foundation Apprenticeship in Social Services: Children and Young People<\/a> during the 2025\u201326 session.<\/p>\n<p>Like Alix, Millie attends her apprenticeship every **Tuesday and Thursday**, studying modules such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Play<\/li>\n<li>Safeguarding<\/li>\n<li>Wellbeing &amp; Safety<\/li>\n<li>Communication<\/li>\n<li>Development<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Millie also attends <a href=\"https:\/\/dunnikier.greenhousecms.co.uk\/\">Dunnikier Primary School<\/a> on Tuesdays as part of her work placement, allowing her to apply her learning in a real childcare environment.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI really enjoy my Foundation Apprenticeship. I initially found myself stressing about the work as it seemed like a lot \u2014 it is \u2014 but the EOs and assessors are lovely and very supportive. The course has really allowed me to see what I can do and the opportunities within the childcare space.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Alix and Millie\u2019s experiences highlight the value of Foundation Apprenticeships in supporting young people to explore careers, gain nationally recognised qualifications, and build confidence for the future.
