Gathering at KHS Before the unveiling.<\/p><\/div>\n

On a wet but momentous Wednesday morning, our Kirkcaldy High pupils stood proudly in the Civic Parade through Town Square to the War Memorial Gardens. Despite the rain and the cold, our spirits never faltered \u2014 cheering on as King Charles III and Queen Camilla joined the centenary commemorations of the Kirkcaldy War Memorial.<\/p>\n

The highlight for our students, and indeed the whole community, was witnessing the King unveil a specially crafted sandstone cairn. This monument, designed by local stonemason George\u202fSweeney, pays tribute not just to the war dead, but also to those who served at home during World Wars I and II. The cairn even includes a time capsule filled with artefacts such as school mementos, memory sticks, and badges from Viewforth High and Kirkcaldy High, buried in a shell casing from 2022.<\/p>\n

Mrs\u202fHarrower and Eve\u202fC. had the extraordinary opportunity to meet both the King and Queen up close, as they were part of the unveiling party!<\/p>\n

Under umbrellas and with occasional light-hearted remarks (\u201ca blessing\u201d in the rain, as one royal commented), the royal pair laid a wreath and paused to speak with pupils, veterans, and local dignitaries. The solemn service was enhanced by music from the Kirkcaldy Pipe Band, Dysart Colliery Band, the Band of the Royal Marines, and the Military Wives Choir.<\/p>\n

Despite the rain, this event showcased the resilience and pride of Kirkcaldy. The bravery of our pupils\u2014standing firm against the elements\u2014mirrored the sacrifice we commemorated. It was a beautiful example of how our school embraces tradition, honour, and community spirit.<\/p>\n

Well done to everyone who took part \u2014 especially Mrs\u202fHarrower, Eve\u202fC., and all the pupils who made the day special.<\/p>\n
