Welcome to this weeks Rector\u2019s Log. I hope you and your family are doing well!<\/p>\n
The week that\u2019s been\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n It has been extremely busy here in KHS this week \u2013 I really can\u2019t believe it\u2019s Friday already!<\/p>\n This week, we marked Holocaust Memorial Day on Thursday with House Assemblies. As shared in last week\u2019s Rector\u2019s Log, this was a month delayed due to the S5\/6 assessments on 27th January. Mrs Harrower and our fantastic young people shared the purpose of this day and provided us with an opportunity to reflect on the past, where we are now and think about what we want our future to be. This year marked 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz and the end of WW2. Many of our young people were involved in leading this assembly and were outstanding. Well done to everyone involved!<\/p>\n On Monday and Wednesday, young people in S4 and S5 met with their Guidance teachers to agree their course choices for next session. Both days went well and our learners approached this with maturity and a clear sense of next steps.<\/p>\n As always, you can read more about all the goings on in our blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n A wee update from Ms Black and our Supported Learning department:<\/p>\n “As with the rest of the Senior phase this week our S4s and S5s have finalised their Coursing for next session.\u202f Some exciting discussions around our learning journeys and next steps, I am so proud of many attitudes and ownership.\u202f Meantime, we continue to work towards and complete our qualifications.<\/em><\/p>\n In our S1 class we had visitors from St Andrews First Aid.\u202f S1 felt it was important to know more about First Aid and how to help people and have been learning in class about emergency services, getting help, 999 calls and assessing situations.\u202f This week they started learning some practical skills including CPR.\u202f They have also been using their knowledge of different strategies in their calculations in Maths and explaining why that strategy works best for them.<\/em><\/p>\n In SLD2 they have also been working on calculations, in particular “new hard division” and despite it being tricky we worked out how to do them.\u202f S2 showed a great resilient attitude to what they thought would be “really hard” and they were very proud of their learning.\u202f They have also been learning about technology that we use in school to support events and performances and have been working in the Assembly Hall with our lighting and sound boards.\u202f”<\/em><\/p>\n House Point totals for the week and session so far are as below:<\/p>\n This weeks total:<\/strong> Overall total:<\/strong> Well done to all!<\/p>\n The week ahead\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n \u200bNext week on the calendar we have the Friends of Kirkcaldy High School (FoKHS) ceilidh<\/a> takes place on Friday 7th March here at KHS.<\/p>\n I hope you have a great weekend.<\/p>\n Best wishes,<\/p>\n Chris McKay Dear Parent \/ Carer, Welcome to this weeks Rector\u2019s Log.
