We had assemblies with a focus on “Learner Journeys”, including recent leavers and staff telling their career stories. I must offer special thanks to Usamah Majeed, Lauren Ferriday and William Rae who addressed the S5/6 this morning and gave such relevant advice and insights into their university programmes.

On Monday we had a Chemistry Trip to Dundee Science Centre which was great fun and very interactive. As well as our SQA Hospitality exams, our National 4 Maths students undertook their Added Value assessments in the Assembly Hall. After school, Mrs Davidson accompanied our Rotary Club Interact Group on a visit to Chapel Level Care Home. It was great to see our young people mixing with the elderly residents so naturally. At the same time, Jamie Smitz, Katelyn Brown and Kwanele Kunene visited the Fife Free Press to plan work placements … this sounds like an exciting opportunity.

On Wednesday we held an SQA Art Practical Day as well as Higher PE Assessments. We also hosted the Disability Sport Fife Football in the afternoon. At the end of last week, we received a lovely thank you message from Richard Brickley MBE, President of Disability Sport Fife, thanking our Sports Leaders for all their hard work supporting DSF swimming, badminton and athletics. Our young people have been brilliant marshals, umpires and time-keepers at these events. It’s a terrific partnership and our young people gain as much as they give working with disabled athletes.

In the evening, the Drama Department put on another excellent performance of “Three”, this time at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh, sponsored by the National Theatre of Scotland. Many thanks to Ms Bruce and Mr McPherson for their work with this … and well done to our young actors. I am personally looking forward to the Shakespeare Schools’ Festival later in the year – it’s another fantastic experience.

Yesterday we had Stewart Struthers in from the Humanist Society of Scotland, visiting RME classes to talk about his work as a Humanist celebrant, and I know that his talk was very well appreciated.

Last night we hosted the Fife Final of the Crown Office Procurator Fiscal Public Speaking Competition. We’ll also have House assemblies (Tuesday to Thursday) with an input from Ken Froude, our school chaplain. There’s a “First Chances” tutoring session after school on Wednesday, with support from under-graduates from St Andrews University. The week ends with a traditional “Dress Down Day” in support of the Cottage Family Centre in Templehall. Wednesday: Mince pie and mash. Thursday: Lasagne with garlic bread. Friday: Chicken curry with naan bread. We also have our pasta, sandwich, soup and salad options too. Do remember that a cup of home-made soup is available free to all young people at lunchtime.

And, at this point, it is worth mentioning that the standard price of a hot meal will rise by 5p to £2 from 1 April. The free meal entitlement rises accordingly. If your family is facing financial hardship, full details of how to apply for free meals are available on our website.

Please find attached another copy our “Easter School” programme for SQA exam candidates. With only 5 weeks left to the exams, a focussed effort over that time can make all the difference to final grades.

Remember that tomorrow’s “Saturday School” is Drama, History, Geography and Modern Studies.

Ms Mahr, our teacher who is heading off to Rwanda in the holidays, thanks you for the donations received … clothing, stationery, toiletries etc. Next week is the deadline.
