{"id":34,"date":"2025-09-25T10:18:35","date_gmt":"2025-09-25T09:18:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fi\/khsexpressivearts\/?page_id=34"},"modified":"2025-09-25T10:19:20","modified_gmt":"2025-09-25T09:19:20","slug":"music-technology","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fi\/khsexpressivearts\/music-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"Music Technology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In S3 the curriculum is split into two distinct courses: Music and Music Technology.\u00a0\u00a0Pupils can choose to continue their studies in either or both of these courses.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the years of S3-S6 pupils will develop skills in the following three areas:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Music technology skills:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Creative use of music technology hardware and software to capture and manipulate audio.<\/li>\n<li>Using appropriate audio input devices<\/li>\n<li>Applying microphone placement techniques<\/li>\n<li>Constructing the signal path for multiple inputs<\/li>\n<li>Setting input gain and monitoring levels<\/li>\n<li>Overdubbing and editing tracks<\/li>\n<li>Equalisation<\/li>\n<li>Time domain and other effects<\/li>\n<li>Mixing techniques<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Music technology contexts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Capture and manipulate audio and sequenced data<\/li>\n<li>Mix down to an audio master in appropriate file format<\/li>\n<li>Create projects in a range of contexts such as live performance, radio broadcast, composing and\/or sound design for film, audiobooks and computer gaming.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Understanding of 20th and 21st century music:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Styles and genres of music<\/li>\n<li>How music technology has influenced and been influenced by developments<\/li>\n<li>Aspects of the music industry, including a basic awareness of the implications of intellectual property rights<\/li>\n<li>Listening skills, enabling them to identify a range of genres and styles and their main attributes, and relevant music concepts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Senior Phase (S4 &#8211; S6)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The music department offers courses in Music Technology (Nat 3, Nat 4, Nat 5 &amp; Higher). There are two assessed elements to the courses:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Assignment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The candidate should demonstrate their ability to plan, implement and evaluate creative production(s). This includes, selecting and using mics correctly, applying processes, effects and other mixing techniques to create a final audio master. Candidates are also expected to fully document their projects.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Understanding Music:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Listening exam that covers knowledge and understanding of 20th and 21st century styles and genres of music and how this relates to the development of music technology.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In S3 the curriculum is split into two distinct courses: Music and Music Technology.\u00a0\u00a0Pupils can choose to continue their studies in either or both of these courses.
