{"id":22,"date":"2025-09-25T10:04:05","date_gmt":"2025-09-25T09:04:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fi\/khsexpressivearts\/?page_id=22"},"modified":"2025-09-25T10:04:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-25T09:04:11","slug":"fashion-and-textiles","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fi\/khsexpressivearts\/fashion-and-textiles\/","title":{"rendered":"Fashion and Textiles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Mission Statement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As part of Kirkcaldy High School\u2019s Art Department, we offer Fashion &amp; Textiles Technology.\u00a0 Through Fashion &amp; Textiles Technology we aim to inspire students to be ambitious, work hard and be kind by fostering creativity and innovation, and personal growth in the world of fashion &amp; textiles.\u00a0 Through collaboration, hands-on learning, and real-world application, we prepare our young learners to become confident, compassionate, and capable individuals.\u00a0 Pupils will develop both their technical skills and creative vision.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>S3 Learning Programme <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Starting in S3, pupils begin to focus on developing practical and creative skills related to fashion design, textile technology, and garment construction, this aligns with the SQA National 4 Fashion &amp; Textile Technology curriculum.\u00a0 The main areas of learning are textile materials and properties, garment construction and the design process.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>S4-S6 Overview<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The SQA Fashion &amp; Textile Technology courses at National 4, 5 &amp; Higher provide pupils with the opportunity to develop skills that are both practical based and literacy based, understanding the fashion &amp; textile world around us and helping us solve problems creatively.\u00a0 There is a mix of independent learning and group work, fostering positive learning environments.\u00a0 Pupils will explore areas such as sustainability in fashion, health and safety, market research and product development, garment construction, understanding fabrics and fabric selection.\u00a0 These areas give students not only the opportunity to access a qualification but engage them in the world of fashion &amp; textiles, skills they can bring to future life and prepare them for further study or work within the industry.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Miss Kinloch \u2013 Teacher of Art &amp; Design and Fashion &amp; Textiles<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Miss Kinloch has a BSc (Hons) degree from Heriot-Watt University, studying at their Scottish Borders Campus in Galashiels.\u00a0 Miss Kinloch brings a passion for fashion history and hands-on creativity to the classroom. Inspired by the glamour of 1920s style, she loves bringing vintage influences into modern design. An avid quilter and dressmaker, she enjoys sharing traditional techniques with a contemporary twist. Outside of teaching, you\u2019ll often find her exploring exhibitions and galleries, gathering fresh ideas to inspire her students.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Miss Crichton \u2013 Teacher of Art &amp; Design and Fashion &amp; Textiles<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After graduating from Heriot-Watt University with a BA (Hons) in Fashion, I now teach both Art &amp; Design and Fashion &amp; Textiles, sharing my passion for creativity every day. I love illustrating and exploring all things arty, whether that\u2019s in the classroom or my own sketchbook. When I\u2019m not teaching or creating, you\u2019ll usually find me at a gig, wandering through museums, or uncovering old, interesting places.
