Guided by our values of <strong>community<\/strong>, <strong>ambition<\/strong>, and <strong>respect<\/strong>, we aim to nurture a lifelong love of music through engaging, practical lessons that focus on playing and listening. Our diverse curriculum covers styles from traditional Scottish music and classical compositions to rock and pop, offering young people a wide range of musical experiences.<\/p>\n<p>We want all pupils to feel <strong>confident<\/strong>, <strong>inspired<\/strong>, and <strong>connected<\/strong> through music, encouraging creativity, teamwork, and appreciation for different cultures and genres. Our cheerful and supportive environment helps young people develop their talents and enjoy making music together. Whether performing, listening, or exploring new styles, every pupil at Kirkcaldy High School is encouraged to enjoy music and develop a passion that lasts a lifetime. Our goal is to build a vibrant musical community full of enthusiasm, respect, and endless musical discovery.<\/p>\n<h1><strong>Overview of BGE Learning Programmes<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><strong>BGE Curriculum Overview<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>At Kirkcaldy High School, our Broad General Education (BGE) music curriculum is designed to engage pupils through a variety of exciting and diverse learning programmes. In S1 and S2, each session is divided into five dynamic Learning Programmes, ensuring a broad and enriching musical experience.<\/p>\n<p><strong>S1 Learning Programmes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Big Bang and Beethoven<\/li>\n<li>Music for Festivals<\/li>\n<li>Braw Beats<\/li>\n<li>Skeep-beep-de-bop-bop<\/li>\n<li>Summer Vibes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>S2 Learning Programmes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Film Frenzy<\/li>\n<li>Music for Festivals (continued from S1)<\/li>\n<li>Musicals<\/li>\n<li>Mother Nature<\/li>\n<li>Summer Vibes (continued from S1)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Starting in <strong>S3<\/strong>, pupils begin to explore a range of musical styles aligned with the SQA National 4 Music curriculum, allowing for deeper understanding and skill development.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout all programmes, pupils have the opportunity to develop practical skills by playing keyboard, tuned percussion instruments, and guitar. They also participate in body percussion and singing activities to encourage and develop confidence and teamwork. Our curriculum is designed to inspire creativity, enjoyment, and a lifelong love of music in every young person.<\/p>\n<h1><strong>Overview of Senior Learning Programmes<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><strong>S4-S6 Overview<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The SQA Music courses at <strong>National 5<\/strong>, <strong>Higher<\/strong>, and <strong>Advanced Higher<\/strong> levels provide pupils with the opportunity to develop their musical skills, knowledge, and understanding. These courses cover a range of areas including <strong>performing<\/strong>, <strong>composing<\/strong>, and <strong>understanding musical context and analysis<\/strong>. Pupils explore diverse musical styles and develop practical skills on <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>two<\/strong><\/span> chosen instruments, while also engaging in listening and analytical tasks. The courses encourage creativity, teamwork, and independent learning, preparing pupils for further education or careers in the music industry and related fields. They are designed to inspire a lifelong passion for music and a deeper appreciation of its cultural significance.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><u>Music Staff Biographies<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Mrs Simpson \u2013 Principal Teacher of Music<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mrs Simpson has a BA Hons Degree in Music from Edinburgh University, where she majored in performance. She\u2019s performed recitals on violin and piano and loves sharing her passion for music with pupils. A big fan of Muse and Jack Black, she\u2019s always up for a rock concert or exploring traditional Scottish tunes. When she\u2019s not teaching, you\u2019ll find her at live music events or strumming her guitar, inspiring the next generation of musicians with her energy and love for all things musical!<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Mrs Duckett \u2013 Principal Teacher of Music<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Mrs Duckett earned her BMus (Hons) in Music from King\u2019s College, University of London, and completed postgraduate studies in Secondary Education and Leading Learning &amp; Teaching at the University of Dundee and the University of Central England. A proud classical music nerd, she adores chamber music, plays flute and violin, and is closely involved with the Kirkcaldy Music Society. Her passion extends well beyond the classroom\u2014whether analysing scores, composing, or attending concerts, she is happiest when surrounded by music. Her infectious enthusiasm inspires pupils to explore, experiment, and develop their own musical voices.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mrs Clark \u2013 Music Teacher<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mrs Clark holds a music degree from Aberdeen University and is a talented flutist. She\u2019s fascinated by the connection between music and psychology and is passionate about teaching music in supported learning environments. A rock concert enthusiast, she loves introducing pupils to the power of music to inspire and motivate. Her lively, caring approach makes lessons fun and engaging, and she\u2019s dedicated to helping every pupil discover their musical voice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mr Wilkie \u2013 Music Teacher<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr Wilkie graduated from Kingston University with a degree in music, specialising in musicals. He\u2019s been involved in over 50 productions and is completely obsessed with everything musical! Whether it\u2019s performing or directing, he lives for the thrill of the stage. His enthusiasm for musicals is infectious, and he loves sharing his passion with pupils.
