Mission Statement
As part of Kirkcaldy High School’s Art Department, we offer Fashion & Textiles Technology. Through Fashion & Textiles Technology we aim to inspire students to be ambitious, work hard and be kind by fostering creativity and innovation, and personal growth in the world of fashion & textiles. Through collaboration, hands-on learning, and real-world application, we prepare our young learners to become confident, compassionate, and capable individuals. Pupils will develop both their technical skills and creative vision.
S3 Learning Programme
Starting in S3, pupils begin to focus on developing practical and creative skills related to fashion design, textile technology, and garment construction, this aligns with the SQA National 4 Fashion & Textile Technology curriculum. The main areas of learning are textile materials and properties, garment construction and the design process.
S4-S6 Overview
The SQA Fashion & Textile Technology courses at National 4, 5 & Higher provide pupils with the opportunity to develop skills that are both practical based and literacy based, understanding the fashion & textile world around us and helping us solve problems creatively. There is a mix of independent learning and group work, fostering positive learning environments. Pupils will explore areas such as sustainability in fashion, health and safety, market research and product development, garment construction, understanding fabrics and fabric selection. These areas give students not only the opportunity to access a qualification but engage them in the world of fashion & textiles, skills they can bring to future life and prepare them for further study or work within the industry.
Miss Kinloch – Teacher of Art & Design and Fashion & Textiles
Miss Kinloch has a BSc (Hons) degree from Heriot-Watt University, studying at their Scottish Borders Campus in Galashiels. Miss Kinloch brings a passion for fashion history and hands-on creativity to the classroom. Inspired by the glamour of 1920s style, she loves bringing vintage influences into modern design. An avid quilter and dressmaker, she enjoys sharing traditional techniques with a contemporary twist. Outside of teaching, you’ll often find her exploring exhibitions and galleries, gathering fresh ideas to inspire her students.
Miss Crichton – Teacher of Art & Design and Fashion & Textiles
After graduating from Heriot-Watt University with a BA (Hons) in Fashion, I now teach both Art & Design and Fashion & Textiles, sharing my passion for creativity every day. I love illustrating and exploring all things arty, whether that’s in the classroom or my own sketchbook. When I’m not teaching or creating, you’ll usually find me at a gig, wandering through museums, or uncovering old, interesting places. For me, art isn’t just something I do—it’s a way of life that I’m always excited to share.
