Here are stories from a range of FA experiences and perspective:
Candidates:
What have you enjoyed about your Foundation Apprenticeship?
How doable the assessments are. I know exactly what I’m meant to do and if there’s something I’m confused about, it’s easy for me to get in contact with Charlene and Laurie to ask for help.
I love going to the primary school and helping out and supporting the children. I also enjoy doing the assessments and completing them.
Going on placement, talking with the residents and doing activities with them.
The way that Steph helps us to understand everything. Going to placement.
I like attending my placement, and getting a little bit of ‘work experience’ through interacting with the teachers, and students.
Love the placement and going to experience what being a teacher is like!
What about the support you get?
My Assessors & Employability Officer supports me, and the others within the class very well. They are always available, and easy to access out, and inside of school.
They support me in person and on VQ folio which has helped my progress through the course.
Ann is absolutely amazing in the way she communicates with the class. she simplifies the units into a way we understand and makes the class very comfortable place to be. Danny is also very helpful in how he keeps our placement in check and communicates with us about that.
I think Rio and Julie are amazing, they are so funny and really easy to talk to, if i ever have any worries i know that i can speak to them and they can offer me the support for not only the FA but also everything else.
Would you recommend a Foundation Apprenticeship to one of your friends?
It’s really good for learning skills and communication and helping you to come out of your shell with confidence.
Just give it your best shot and try to keep up with the work but ask if you need a hand with anything they are more than happy to help you.
I would tell them it’s great for communication skills as well as if they are willing to continue a career in the chosen subject.
I would tell them that the workload is rather heavy, so they will need to ensure that they have enough time to overall complete each and every assessment given, and reflective account.
It helped me to make up my mind about if I want to go onto childcare and I had a fun time.
