Week Beginning 5th May 2025

Monday: Public Holiday

Tuesday: A group of  us went to the beach this morning. We enjoyed mark making with different stones and searching for treasure  on the beach. At nursery there was lots of water play in the garden and construction work using pipes from loose parts creating different levels for the water to travel on.

Wednesday:  Today the children who will be going into p1 had their first transition visit at school taking part in a Bookbug session followed by a visit to the school. Back at nursery we enjoyed the garden with some water play and  role play at the mud kitchen. Inside we have been exploring destinations and discovering flags.

Thursday: At gym today we practiced our races for sports day showing fantastic hand/eye co-ordination and balance skills. Back at nursery  we have had fun in the garden roleplaying and exploring with water pouring and filling.

Friday: A few of us attended a new Bookbug session this morning based on our new learning wall – destinations and transport. The outdoor story area has been getting a revamp with the majority of children helping to make it extra special.

ELC Consultation –  Every few years Fife Council wish to find out about the availability of Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) for families in our area.  Please share your views.  The ELC consultation is available online until Friday 6th June 2025.  Click here to participate in ELC Consultation

Parent Council- The next Parent Council meeting will be held in Tayport Primary School on Monday 19th May  at 6.30pm.  We would like to invite all nursery parents to attend. These meetings provide the opportunity for parents to be involved in the life of nursery and school.  

Learning Wall- Our current learning wall is all about ‘Destinations’ i.e Where you live, languages, holidays, transport, The World.  Please feel free to share any photos, experiences with your family etc so we can  add them to our learning wall. This allows your child to share their home experiences and opens up more questions for children to explore.  

Junk Modelling- The junk modelling is very popular and in high demand of recyclable materials. If you could help by bringing in items such as cardboard boxes, egg boxes, ribbon, wool etc. these would be greatly received… and who knows what creation these will turn into! 

Sickness/Illness – A gentle reminder that if your child is unwell (e.g. Vomiting & Diarrhoea) the guidelines are 48 hours exclusion from nursery from the last bout of sickness/diarrhoea.  

Lending Library & Activities – These continue to be housed in our front hall. These are changed regularly providing new activities for you to explore. Please remember to sign books/activities in and out. Thank you! 

Weather – Could all parents please ensure their child is appropriately dressed for the weather, especially on Beach Days, and that all clothing is clearly named.  We ask all children have a sun hat with them as we are getting nicer weather. Thank you! 

Sunscreen –  As the weather is getting nicer can you please ensure sunscreen has been applied to your child before coming to Nursery. We have a sun station set up where you can apply your child’s sunscreen if required.

Borrowed Clothes – Can parents please remember to return any clothes borrowed from nursery. We are running very low on boys trousers. Thank you. 

Week Beginning Monday 28th April

Monday

It’s been a busy start to the week with the garden being a popular choice as the sun is shining.  In the mud kitchen there were some masterpieces being created by our busy chefs, they discussed the different ingredients to be added into their food. Lots of sharing of resources and fantastic teamwork. In the nursery ‘what’s in the bag’ progressed on to musical statues providing opportunities to dance, whilst listening to different styles of music.

 

Tuesday

We visited the beach today,  some of the children collected sea glass and stones. Some chose to bring back the stones to paint at nursery. The rock pools were full of shells and stones covered in barnacles which prompted conservations about why some stones have and some don’t. They’re was good use of imagination as some children role played on the grass area.

Wednesday

We have changed some of our areas in the garden over the last couple of weeks. Our new cosy story corner is an area where they can enjoy a quiet comfortable place to relax whilst listening to stories. Small world play in the garden has sparked imagination using our dinosaurs to create adventures. In the nursery the block area was busy building a stage for some of the children to perform. A child brought in a paper aeroplane they had made which prompted other children to make one. This then lead to  going into the garden to see who’s flew the furthest.

Thursday

We all visited the gym today where we were practicing different races for sports day learning how to move and control our bodies.
They listened and followed rules as well has encouraging each other. Back at nursery, in the garden football was a popular choice as well as using the hoola hoops in different ways.

Friday

The block area was busy with some children building a school which they then selected different materials to take into school. They took turns of role playing the teacher whilst the others had to listen and do their homework. In the garden there were lots of role playing using the car to go on adventures. The hoola hoops were also being used to jump into, using one or two legs.

Week Beginning 21st April 2025

Monday: This morning some of us have been creative at the junk modelling making models of dinosaurs, bumble bees and fish. At the sand tray we have been exploring the texture of the sand and using different loose parts to build sandcastles.

Tuesday: Today a few of us have been developing our marking making skills at the drawing table , tracing around our hands and then writing our name on our picture. Outside we have been helping the adults to redesign the garden area with our thoughts and ideas. Some of us have been exploring shape, pattern and symmetry following instructions to make a paper boat. The experimenting to see if it would float.

Wednesday: We have been busy at the junk modelling this morning making “pets” discussing the types of pets we were making . Role playing in the mud kitchen , discussions on quantity making sure they had enough bowls for their customers.

 

Thursday: We have been enjoying the new layout of the garden with most of us  exploring the new mud kitchen area. A few of us have been showing our football skills we have been learning from football training classes from home. Inside a few of us have used different sizes of pots to make sandcastles developing our mathematical language.

Friday: We have all been very busy today both inside and outside the nursery. Some of us have enjoyed lots of role play in the garden with loose parts. Inside we have been exploring letters at the art table using the resources to make cards with our names.

Week Beginning 14th April 2025

Monday

Today there was a lot of discussion using a wide and varied range of vocabulary, including some mathematical language, to share ideas, design and build a variety of different  vehicles using the Lego. “Mines got 4 wheels!” “ Mines got 2 wheels and it can go really fast” “I’ll put another bit on the front to make it go faster” 🚗🚎🚚The writing table was popular today with some children making their own story books “My story books all about myself!” 📚demonstrating that they can use writing in a variety of contexts. Outdoors today some of our children decided to make/create their own drum kits by sourcing a variety of different vessels then exploring the different sounds they made. “This is a loud one!” “I’m going to hit it hard!” “This one’s quieter”🥁

Tuesday

We had lots of discussion re magnets and what different materials/objects magnets would, and would not, stick to! We looked out the magnetic fishing 🎣 game which created further discussion whilst developing our turn taking skills. Some of the children demonstrated their engineering skills by designing, problem solving and sharing ideas whilst building a racing track 🏁using the building blocks. They then used our estimation skills to predict which cars🚗🚙would go the fastest. There was lots of energetic play outdoors today developing our gross motor skills by running, jumping, pedalling etc.

Wednesday

Today the whales🐋 were creating  interest in the water tray creating discussions about sizes, how fast they swim , what they eat etc.  Size also featured in the sand tray where several children used a variety of different shaped/sized containers to build sandcastles🏰 creating use of mathematical and descriptive language. Our interest in jewellery making continued at the beach🏖️ today with some children looking for treasure e.g. sea glass, shells, flowers to design and create bracelets.🐚🌸

 

 

 

Thursday

Some of the children helped  give the garden a bit of a makeover. After a discussion with the children, and taking on board some of their ideas💡, we decided firstly to move the mud kitchen🧑‍🍳.  Most of the children were involved in helping clear🧹 the new area and move💪 the mud kitchen to its new home. They demonstrated fantastic team work & negotiating skills whilst doing this!  Look out for further developments in our nursery garden!
Jigsaws🧩 were a popular choice today with children working well together using problem solving skills to complete the jigsaws.  The brick area 🧱was busy today with some children planning and building Bluey’s house🏠 using negotiating skills to decide which part each child was going to build.

Friday

Today we explored a variety of different Easter themed activities throughout the nursery🐣.  Whilst using/developing our fine motor, drawing, cutting and writing skills some made Easter chick masks, some chose to create their own Easter cards and we had an Easter story in the garden whilst enjoying a little Easter chocolate treat😉🐥🥚. Some children created their own treasure hunt in the garden by ‘writing’ a list of objects they were to find and using their organisation skills to determine who was to look for which object.

Week Beginning Monday 7th April

Monday 7th April

The sun is out making us all feel extra cheery. The children helped to create a new sun station in nursery where they can apply it themselves with adult support. Helping them with independence & gaining knowledge on being sun safe. The garden has been busy with lots of role playing in the mud kitchen creating a burger restaurant, which encouraged most of the children to go & try. In the nursery our junk modelling is very popular where some beautiful structures have been created.

Tuesday 8th April

We went to the beach today where we explored a different area. Some of the children were using the stones to build towers they used descriptive language when discussing the different sizes. They built bridges using sticks that were collected from different areas, they had fantastic teamwork & negotiating skills to achieve their goal. Hill rolling was still a popular choice as well as some choosing to enjoy the beautiful views.

Wednesday 9th April

The art area has been popular today where some of the children have been interested in forces with lots of discussion about how wind power and how it helps our daily lives. They made their own windmills and selected a variety of different materials to decorate them. At the snack area children chatted about what they like and don’t like to eat, our snack today was very colourful which was prepared by one of the children.

Thursday 10th April

Another beautiful day in nursery with the children being busy throughout the session.  Some of the children have been exploring tip tap which provides opportunity to create a range of symmetrical pictures and patterns. In the garden there was lots of role playing detectives, as well has lots of relaxing in our shaded wigwam.

Friday

Today whilst developing our hand/eye coordination some of us demonstrated our designing skills by creating necklaces using a variety of different coloured, sized and shaped buttons. There was lots of mathematical language being used as well as estimation skills e.g. whilst deciding on how long the string should be to go around our necks. Some of us helped return some books to our local library where we engaged in some colouring activities before choosing some new books to bring back to nursery. “Wonky Donkeys my favourite!” We had a discussion with staff and children to see how we could make more space for creating models/structures in our garden using the outdoor blocks. We decided on moving the blocks and the writing bench to new areas of the garden and will monitor to see if the new areas are working well!

 

Week Beginning 31 March 2025

Monday

Taking ownership of safety, a small group of children worked together communicating responsibilities for garden check. One child volunteered to  “mark” make the risk assessment whilst the rest of the children were able to compromise by selecting who would chose which area of the garden t check. Developing communication skills to been feed back the information to be checked off and organising themselves through agreements.

Tuesday

At the building block area a couple of children made a “head quarters” each child had a different role to help construct the building. Designing the roof using bamboo sticks sparked a conversation to problem solve the structure. A couple of children set up  their own stage to perform – signing and dancing. By encouraging and supporting their peers helped to develop confidence.

Wednesday

At beach today a couple of children discovered writing on a bench and asked “what does that say?” Showing awareness of print, this lead to a discussion of remembering people who have past away and the meaning of the numbers. Some children shared their stories of passed family members. At nursery a couple of children created sandcastles using loose parts and materials to create and design- discussing the different heights and the wet sand representing the water at the beach.

Thursday

At gym today everyone was developing their developing their listening skills and following instructions through “Simon Says our listening skills and took leadership in our game of Simon says giving an instruction each to the whole group. We had our first practice for sports day taking turns and working in teams. For cool down we focussed on stretching discussing the different body parts and muscles and were able to describe how it felt.

Friday

During role play the blocks were used to create a house which developed into dramatic play. Exploring sensory outdoors using different textures of material whilst incorporating songs. Outdoor water play filling and emptying buckets. working together and sharing ideas to support one another to make an easy transfer.

Yoga- One our nursery Mums has kindly offered to come and do a yoga session with our nursery children! Any other parents who would like to share their talents in nursery please speak to a member of staff. We love to have our nursery parents share their hobbies, talents, interests in nursery.

Week Beginning 24th March 2025

Monday

Today the sun was shining🌞 and we enjoyed exploring lots of different activities outdoors including creating music with a variety of instruments- learning their names, how to hold/play them and listening to the different sounds they made🥁🪇. We explored different techniques of how to cover our models with paint. We tried different ways and decided we enjoyed experimenting with straws to blow the paint 🎨🖌️. Indoors our writing/drawing table was very busy today with lots of children representing their ideas on paper using as variety of media. Some children expressed an interest in writing their names as well as other familiar words e.g. Mum and Dad.

Tuesday

Today one of our children created his own game outdoors using chalk to mark make the shapes/spaces 👣⭕️needed for the game. He then explained the rules to his peers and encouraged his peers to join in, altering his use of language to encourage some who were reluctant to join in! At the beach🏖️ today we explored different ways of moving our bodies e.g. climbing🧗 and rolling- using a variety of vocabulary to describe the texture/feeling of the different surfaces they were climbing/rolling on “It feels soft!” “It’s furry!” “This bit’s a bit spikey!” “This rocks very hard 🪨!” We also observed the clouds describing the different shapes we could see!☁️

 


Wednesday

Today several of our children were sharing/representing their ideas through role/imaginative using the dinosaurs, building blocks.  A wide range of vocabulary was used whilst role playing/discussing the different types of dinosaurs🦖🦕 i.e. size, what they ate, their names etc. Using a variety of different sized/shaped bricks a castle was designed and built “The Queen👸 and the Princess🫅 will live in the castle🏰 and we’ve built a bedroom for them to sleep in!” the children explained. One of our children designed, and created, a power station using the Lego and explained “The power puts electricity on in our houses💡 but if we had a power cut nothing would work!” Showing they have an understanding of electricity and the importance of electricity in our daily lives.⚡️

 

 

Thursday

Today we explored a variety of different ring games during our gym session today💃🕺. Developing  our turn taking, listening and gross motor skills. There were several conversations regarding fractions e.g wholes, halves, quarters etc. at the snack table with some children using knives to cut fruits into pieces🍴. Outside we explored the puddles looking at reflection , experimenting with different objects to see if they floated or sunk in the puddles. We also added some washing up liquid to the puddles to see what would happen when we jumped in the puddles.  💦

Friday

Today in Ferryport some children were representing their ideas in the sand tray “We’re building a city!”🏙️ “There’s a volcano there too!”🌋  This created lots of discussion about volcanoes erupting. We then developed our use of technology to search on the computer 💻 to see if we could find any live web cam footage of a volcano erupting. 🌋We found one which is erupting in Miami at the moment! Our woodwork bench was popular today with some children experimenting with different materials to design, and create, their own hammers 🔨using a variety of tools. We enjoyed a visit from one of our Mums who did a yoga session with our children. We did some stretching exercises before exploring several yoga poses including ‘downward dog’ ‘cow/dog’ ‘warrior’ ‘butterfly’ ‘tree’ ‘triangle’ ‘frog’ amongst others. 🦮🐈🦋🐸🌳

Week Beginning 17 March 2025

Monday 17th

It has been a very busy start to the week with some of the children being particularly busy at the art area making hand bags. This provided the opportunity to source a variety of  different materials & use our junk to create their masterpieces. They discussed shapes, position & size as well as developing fine motor skills. In the garden some children chose to play hockey whilst others played with the water using pipes.

Tuesday 18th

Carrying on from yesterday’s play the water has been popular again with lots of different resources being used.  There was lots of chat amongst them about forces where they experimented with the objects. They had to work together share space & problem sole to achieve the outcome they were looking for. Inside there were conversations about fruit/vegetables, giving a deeper understanding of what is fruit and vegetable. Some children chose to make faces with their selection.

Wednesday 19th

Today we explored with previous stones  to make transit art, we chatted about the colours & different pattern’s within the stones. Each child selected a variety of colours to make their art work. The sun was shining so the garden was busy with lots of different play from making music to football/basketball & bike riding. Some of the children took part in a tug of war which became quite competitive with the winning team being best of 3.

Thursday 20th

We all went to the school today where the nursery children were read to by the primary 6 children, sharing their favourite stories and chatting about the different characters within the stories. Back at nursery most of the children were busy at the art area, making shields using a variety of different materials. They then used the coloured foil that they had used in their shields to explore looking through them in the garden making the garden to change colour.

Friday 21st

Today there was lots of role playing using scarfs and junk modelling, to create different superhero characters. The block area was used to create ramps where it became a high speed car racing track, it then became a house where a variety of resources were added to the play. We then ended the day with a meditation activity called spaceship to the moon this allowed us all to relax and feel calm.
