Starting Nursery

‘The transition to school together with the transition from home to an ECEC setting are the first occasions in which children experience a big cultural change in the people around them, the ways in which they interact, their number of peers, the types of activity they engage in, and their physical surroundings.’ OECD, 2017:17 RtA P91.

What to Expect

Prior to your child’s first day at Ferryport Nursery, you will be provided with paperwork to complete and informative Sways or information either electronically or by post.

Your family will also be contacted to arrange dates and times for your child to visit with a family member before their official start date.

These pre-arranged visits will allow you and your child to;

  • meet the Ferryport Team members
  • meet and build relationships with your child’s Key Worker
  • become familiar with the spaces.

Your child’s Key Worker welcomes discussions about your child’s progress or any issues or queries.

As well as having a Key Worker, all Team members support your child on a daily basis which allows families and staff to build strong partnerships and provides continuity.
