Week Beginning 2nd December 2024

Wow! We’re at the beginning of December already!

What a busy week we’ve had in nursery this week.

Monday:

With the weather turning particularly cold and frosty the children spent time outdoors in the garden exploring the properties of the ice and discussing what they haver noticed about the changing environment around them.

“The ground is slippy and wiggly!” JM

“Mrs Dempster put sand on the logs to stop us slipping” GB

Lots of building play in the sand area this week, with large groups of children making walls, roads, paths and creating small world areas with loose parts such as shells and stones.

Tuesday:

Today we decided it was time to decorate the nursery for Christmas!

The children all took part emptying the boxes and deciding where to put each bauble and decoration. We danced along to Christmas music while we worked. This led to lively discussions around everyone’s Christmas trees and traditions…..and of course some of us have elves!

Finished off with a 4th birthday celebration and cake.

“My tree has a red star!”

“My elf was naughty”

“Guess what, I have a big snowman!”

Wednesday:

Today a group of the children were experimenting with the Ipad, taking videos of themselves dancing, singing and smiling. Lots of interest in the incoming technology items too. (More on this in the new year).

We all listened “The Christmas Story” today. Each of us listened well and answered questions about the story so show how we are beginning to understand the role of the Christmas story and how we celebrate.

Thursday:

Today was gym day.

We had some Christmas themed warm up games to get us ready and in the mood to be active and move our bodies.  Once warmed up , we had lots of different types of gym equipment out to explore.

We discovered different ways to move our bodies independently, using beams, mats, balls, cars, hobbyhorses and more!

We practiced turn taking and sharing the space with our nursery friends, it’s tricky but we are doing well with this.

Friday:

Today we all spent lots of time building elaborate houses with the large construction blocks and filling them with loose parts and items from the home corner. We worked co-operatively and created a plan for building.

A few of us have been loving the musical instruments this week, with some using them to support of Christmas song practices.

We even had another 4th birthday celebration and chocolate cake!

Our Christmas song practice has been happening every morning this week. We are working hard to learn all our songs, and it is definitely beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Have a lovely weekend and we’ll see you all next week.
