.

Today we learned it was Bastille day, a parent kindly came in to speak to us about the celebrations and the traditions happening in France. The children were very intrigued about the French language, some of us practiced how to say our names , our colours and some other words.

CC – ‘The Eiffel tower is in France.’

RC-‘ What is the numbers in French?’

JM-‘I can say it in Polish’ then proceeded to count to 3 in Polish as well as being able to  repeat some of the colours back in French.

Some children suggested to build the Eiffel tower out of bricks.

Everyone enjoyed the sunshine, there was a mixture of space hopping , action games , balancing and a lot of dancing to a variety of music.

‘The floor is lava’ was the favourite!

Today there was a lot of creative play, most of the child were using popsicle sticks to invent ‘Ninja Stars.’ First they started off by sticking 2 together with cellotape to see how far it would fly outside, using directional language to describe such as high and low to compare.  They then discovered some did not fly at all which then created discussion to problem solve by adding more sticks or More material. All children explored the garden,  developing their gross motor skills. Some used space hoppers and balls to practice racing whilst  the rest of the children enjoyed balancing on the trim trail and on the seesaw.

Some children took an interest the paint app selecting characters to colour and discovering the variety of tools and functions.

Some today were taking care of the babies in the home corner , there was a lot of discussion and conversation about how to look after them.

CC – ‘Look we can put them to sleep here’

RC -‘ Okay, I can get them to sleep by rocking them’

CC – ‘They need food’

As the day went on we added bubbles to the water which sparked interest and everyone took a turn in the tray, some were describing the feel of the bubbles as ‘popping’.

Out in the garden children were using the cable reels to see if they can roll them as they were all different sizes.

‘Look I can fit on this one’

‘This one is too big’

We made use of the big space outside of the nursery room , where some children used a variety of Materials to create a ‘safety zone’ as there was an explosion ‘this way’. Also there was a destruction of a building, there was warning signs ‘stand back’ showing awareness of risk.

We had a visit from Mr Cameron who introduced us to the world of technology and all the different features that can be used with an Ipad or the smart board , we were able record ourselves then watching back in slow motion and fast motion. The children were inspired as they were trying out different body movements, grabbing toys to check if how they were on the screen.

Later in the morning some children wanted to take the Ipads down to the trim trail and play area to record themselves climbing and jumping from heights or videoing the nature around them.

Friday 18/07/2025.

Today was a very busy day, first it was free play around the garden and Lego building inside. Later Mr Cameron came to visit again with a lot more ideas for us. Some children created their own costumes with a variety of materials , a lot of imaginative ideas with learning how to use the tools safely required to add bits on and cut where we need to. We learned how to use the animation feature, where we drew something of interest and it recorded into a video of us doing it , there was a spark of trying different materials, there was cars and sand used too it was amazing how the children learned so quickly.

One was focused on spelling today , he was able to spell out the words ‘BINGO’ and ‘BLUEY’ with his alphabet. We noticed he could not find a letter at first so he used an alternate , but once found he figured out how to switch them round. Great work!

Lastly to burn off energy we all had a game of dodgeball in the big hall.  What a great week!

Today there was a lot of interest in the art area where some children were drawing their favourite characters which went deep into a discussion about favourite movies. Some children created a ‘jumping platform’ with the blocks , a lot of turn taking and body control.

Out in the garden there was a few that created a game with the hula hoops , a lot of rolling , then through sharing ideas among one another they attached the different sized hoops together to step or jump round or into , one child choose to spin round with the big hoop showing exciting as he followed it round.

Tuesday – 10/06/25.

Today we were in separate groups as 1 stayed back at the nursery and the 2nd group took a walk to the beach in the sunshine. At nursery there was lots of technology use , using the mouse/keyboard to size pictures and researching images following on from Mondays discussions to print off and cut out.

Out in the garden a few of the children had created their own ramps and used the balls to see the force they went down from a variety of heights.

At the beach children were leading their own learning , one leading the beach charter and some organising the games , it lead to a variety of activities involving mark making , imaginative play with the rocks and then onto a hunt. There was a lot of discussions of sizes , shapes and the tide being near/far , fast/slow.

The main focus was height , measuring them small to big and big to small.
There was a lot of exploring in the garden with the scooters and managing our ball skills by throwing , kicking and bouncing.

A small group got together to sing some rhymes and songs. We celebrated a fifth birthday today , we sang happy birthday almost all our children shared some delicious cake. Some of the children helped create anew sensory den in the nursery garden, offering suggestions of what they would like the den.

Outside a small group of children were building with the polydron

We then took a walk along to our community garden where we  sat down to listen to instructions – developing our listening skills.

’Can we all find the pond?’ .. with excitement everyone explored the garden to find it. We then went through the Willow tunnel with enthusiasm.

’This is amazing’ ‘wow’ ‘look come around this way this is so awsome’

We then collected some willow to thread to make the den , planted some beans , read some stories and took turns on the stepping stones , managing risk and our balance.

Today was beach day,  it was a chilly one so we all got wrapped up to take a nice walk down to the waterfront. We collected stones and shells to take back.

First thing in the morning we went along to the gym hall at the school, we got lots of practice with our body control as we were on a variety of different equipment, by following instruction we learned to take turns, and wait until it is safe to go on. For our cool down we played a small ring game. Later in the morning we had a small discussion about Thanksgiving and began to learn Christmas songs.

Friday 29/11/2024.
As it is St Andrews day tomorrow we had a little discussion about Scotland. We put on some Scottish country music to dance too , all of us took part, it was fun learning the different steps and dance names. Some free play later in the morning , the floor is lava, creative building and outdoor play.
